Just wondering how others keep their babies? My 2yo ISH filly is out 24/7 and has been since she was born. she's is out with company on good grass & gets small amount of young stock feed with multi vit daily. Ive taught her the basics ie leading, she stands tied to be groomed, feet picked out etc & she's good with farrier.

A few horsey "friends" often say I'm cruel, as they keep their babies stabled over rugged, petted & pumped full of feed! They also have them over worked in my eyes. I know all horses are different but i just like to know what others do. She is the first horse I've bred, but am happy to let her live out and take things slowly with her. She seems happy, she's in good condition & growing well :)

Mine are pampered............

Turned out 24/7 if possible. Last winter we were so waterlogged they did come in at times. They have access to a straw yard, eat adlib haylage and have suregrow, chaff and handful of sugarbeet.

mine was out 24/7 as a 2yr old was not stabled at night till she was rising 6 and at a friends yard to be backed, will be out at night again this winter when she moves to a yard closer to home

she lives in - goes out 10ish hours a day....

shes an absolute arse living out - she was out 24.7 last year and she turned rather evil (she was sent away though so that didnt help)!

she loves being in her stable, loves her "space" and coming in :) id love her out 24.7 but being how she is it just wouldnt work for us...

shes a late 2 year old though shes 3 in a couple of months :)

if she was out 24/7 she would be huge :o

Mine live out all year round. They do well on it.

Ignore your "friends" giving their unwanted opinions, and you'd be better off not commenting on the way they do things if you don't agree, as that's no better.

Thanks guys... I just like to hear how others manages their babies! :) this is my girl a few months ago.. She loves life outdoors & is the sweetest most chilled out filly around! ]

Mine is out all the time just now only comes in once a day to get fed then come the winter he will be in at night and out through the day. He is fed one feed a day of suregrow and healthy hooves.

My two are out full time, with access shelter if they want it. I call them in each day to check them over, pick feet, fly spray and give them a few nuts in a bucket as reward. The are good at being tied up and with blacksmith. They will lead from field, but I am doing nothing else with them for at least twelve months, they need to have time to be young and grow.

What a super looking 2 year old yours is, don't forget that ID's go on growing and maturing until they are at least six, so ignore unhelpful comments and carry on doing what you feel is right for you.

Love looking at these beautiful babies!! If they are thriving on the basics then leave it to nature!! Plenty of years for being stabled & worked!!! :)

Absolutely out! no rugs or pampering and with some older horses to learn herd manners!
She's a lovely horse now and can be trusted with other horses too

Mine is out 24/7 in a herd without a rug all year. I hope to always keep her like this and have no plans to stable her overnight when she starts work
