How do you know how much scope a horse has?

As the title says really!

My 15.1 is currently jumping round BN & Disco easily, and I'm aiming to have jumped round a newcomers by about November, as I think she will be able to cope with the height.

In the ideal world, I would love to eventually (aggges away lol) jump round some 1.15's and perhaps a fox, but I don't know whether she would manage or not

I think when the jumps come out at the yard, I will stick them up abit and see how she goes.

How does everyone else know what their horse's limit is?

Generally I would say a horse has scope when it is competing at a decent standard and making it look effortless.

I know when mine has reached his limit. He refuses. Not a nasty unexpected stop, he just sizes up the fence and if he decides its too big, he just slowly grinds to a halt. Its only ever parallels of 3'9 or more, and I will let him off as he is 14.1 and 22 years old, and more than capable of deciding when I am asking him too much.
