How do you know if a shoe is too tight or pinching if a horse is not lame??

This is with your pervious post in mind. It may not be that the shoes are pinching the horse, it may be that before when the horse didnt have its backs shod it could 'feel' the ground a bit. Not enough to be foot sore but just enough to keep it from doing any jumping around on hard surface.

Or you could have the shoes taken off and see if there is any difference or maybe have it reshod by someone else?

The reason i ask is because lastnight when i was picking out paddys feet he wasnt particularly keen on me doing his back left. Normally he picks each foot up for me and holds it but that foot he kept trying to pull away.....it was that foot that he (im not really sure how to word this as it will sound really silly as he was perfect to be shod) seemed to not quite relax with when it was shod.
At the time my farrier commented that he was a little less keen, but as it was his last foot it was probably a bit of boredom. I will clarify that he certainly didnt flinch, try and pull the foot away, or got agitated in the slightest, but i just noticed a tiny bit of a difference.
Although my previous horse, no matter what order you shod his feet would always get fidgety on the last foot....every time....whether it was trying to nibble the farriers back, or be a bit fidgety standing or chewing his lead rope he always got bored on the last foot.
I think i am just being a hypocondriact and trying to find a reason that my lovely pony turned into a nappy little git.....(for anyone that hasnt seen it im referring to my previous thread about my pony turning into a napping nightmare at the start of this week! check out the thread any help appreciated!!!)

lialls i think you are right....with no shoes his feet would definately have been a lot more planted to the road so he prob feels like he is walking on cushions at the mo!!! although no excuse for becoming a napping bucking bronco lol!!!

Defently no excuse at all to do that. You may well be right in thinking that he is not comfortable with his shoes though, i would try a different farrier to see if it was that or have them removed untill he is more settled.

To test if its his shoes you could see how he behaves when lunged i guess. If they are pinching or a bit tight it may show up then.

Thats a good idea i will try that.

He certainly hasnt showed any signs of soreness...but as you say lungeing might show something up.
