If a horse is for you or not? For example can you look at a horse and say thats not for me or getting on it, Or for some people does it take time? Just curious as im totally smitten with my new boy but i knew by looking at him that he was the one for me, i was like this with coloured who i love to bits, so i guess ive got a good few years in front of me

As by the sounds of it so do you.

You know it's a funny thing isn't it.

I buy and sell horses all the time and generally I go by bloodlines and to date I have never been disappointed....however when I am buying other breeds of horses that I am not so familiar with the bloodlines, it can be a bit hit or miss.

I ALWAYS do my initial dealings with a seller by email - you can glean sooooo much information on a horse by the written word. Once I feel that the horse is worth a look, off I go.

When I get there, almost every time, I just know whether the horse is for me or not. I have very specific "wants" from the horses I buy, so if they don't possess all of these things then I generally walk away. If they possess some of these things but not all, then I think it is their eyes and their demeanor which is what sways the decision.

Haha i know i answered my question but some people are different, some buy without viewing, some take ages to actually get to grips with before they decide they want it, or have to trial it first to make sure its right. Fair enough i say but i havent ever taken a horse on trial as i generally know what i want and if it doesnt look like what i want then i dont bother, With ben i knew before i got on him what he was going to be like, so mind was made up.

So i think you have a good eye for horses then tia? You deal with so many so you know really what they are/arent going to be like? I dont really care for bloodlines, but saying that ive had a heinz coloured pony, who beat half the ponies with bloodlines at most things. Ie showing, she was a fantastic workers. So im not one for caring for breeding. It would be nice though to see where they came from etc.

I have my bloodline with Quarter Horses and I always buy horses with this bloodline in it - I've never been disappointed so far. Generally you find that almost all of them have the same features and demeanors, so once you find a line that suits your needs, you tend to always go for the same ones again.

I have to buy horses with good pedigrees as I sell some of the horses and the customers I have seem to also want the lines I buy. Unpedigreed horses are worthless over here generally....which is why so many new "societies" are appearing all over the place

.

None of my horses in the UK had papers, it just wasn't important to me over there.

It is the same over most of Europe. people have no interest in seeing horses if they don't like the breeding. They are more or less worthless if they have no pedigree. it makes you wonder how many good ones are "worthless" !

You know when you’re sitting at work and you get that excited feeling about seeing them!!

I get this with Bodey mixed in with a slight nervousness at the moment.

I just knew as soon as i saw his piccie on the net! Kept on going back to him, then rang up, and as soon as I saw him in real life, there was just something about him!?

Didnt feel that with last pony, i suppose because he didnt tick all the boxes, but I still adored him and would have kept him for life If was possible.

Its strange but every horse I have ever bought, I just knew they were right before even getting on. Some horses I just look at and know they are not for me.

The horses I have bought have always been successful and never been sold on.

i bought my horse and never sat on him when we went to look. i seen him ridden by 3 other people (1 was my friends 9 year old daughter who isn't cantering yet. btw we were looking for a horse for my friend not me) and just knew he was for me. he was so sweet to handle and laid back when ridden, not to mention stunning (or he will be when he's put on muscle and condition). he's an ex racer and i've had him since a week before christmas.
i have had about 5 years away from horses and worked with them for 7 years previous, but never owned my own horse before. always thought i was too fussy about what i would want to own myself. but i just knew the 1st instance i laid my eyes on him that i wanted to take him home. guess it was love at 1st sight
