How do you make your horse more careful jumping?

My horse drives me crazy - he is bold as brass and will jump anything i put in front of him - he is super xc and doesnt touch a thing- but he loves to knock the showjumps down! I have been working once a week now on doing grids polework etc trying to make him more careful but he doesnt care - every time we jump no matter what height he has 4 faults which isnt terrible but its every time out - does anyone have any suggestions on how to teach them to be more careful. I must say im not hugely into showjumping anymore but love odes and xc so i need to do showjumping as part of the ode's that are coming up.

Doesnt sound like he is too horrendous if he only has the one pole down...

How old is he? How is his canter? Does he go on a long one/deep spot? Does he have them behind or infront?

My horse loves his jumping but his technique when I got him wasn't great (it is improving!). My instructor started using v poles throughout a grid to encourage him to pick up at the front and start using himself over the fence. This helped him greatly but he still likes to drop a hind and you can see this in a lot of our jumping photos, today we worked in jumping a fence from walk, not strolling over it but actually walking and jumping over it, only a small cross but really made him pick up the back end and was a really interesting exercise.... Speak to your instructor and see if they ave any suggestions?

katb its not horrendous at all but its frustrating - every single time out i get 4 faults - his canter is fab -(he competes bd aswell- he is more of a dressage horse) but will chip in a short stride if hes unsure but its the good strides when i think weve taken off brilliantly that he knocks down.

take its boots off? gorse poles? grid work? ride it more forward so it doesnt drop a short one in? ride more forward in general? loose jump and watch his natural stride an jump?

just an idea but you cud try leaving him a couple of weeks without even seeing a jump before a competition especially as he s brave and only a tiny bit careless. it mite keep him fresh and make that little exta effort.
