How do you manage your strip grazing?

At the moment our shire x is in a square paddock with two sides being permanent fencing and two sides being electric. I'm very conscious of him gaining too much weight and he has grazed his bit down pretty well (he does get hay/small feed of happy hoof plus vit/min) so I want to now start strip grazing him.

My plan was to move one side of electric fencing in while moving the other side out, therefore letting him graze one side while the other has a chance to grow and alternating week by week. Does this sound do-able?

Yes sounds about right, I have a good doer who gets fat on thin air. He blows up(literally overnight)

I have a 3 acre paddock that I electric fence the outer perimeter(more to stop him rubbing the fence down) and then I divide it up and I usually have a line of fence tape that I can move ie even a few foot a day. I always have a rule that if the temp is above 5 centigrade the grass will be growing especially at the moment with the sun and sprinkle of showers. If we get a morning frost too beware that the grass will have a sugar hit too. If you think he has put on weight keep him restricted and give him some hay to bulk feed ie not give him lots of sugary grass instead. The other thing I do is keep an eye on how many poos he is doing and if they are sloppy ones. I just moved my boy back to a fresh field and he is doing some right sloppy ones so I know he is getting probably too much rich grass as well. Plus I know how many he has done as I am picking up every day. Well thats how I monitor the situation, you could use a weigh tape?
