How do you prevent electric shocks from nylon-lined rugs?

Put his snuggly new rug on for the first time last night due to it being so cold.
He was far too warm this morning, so gently took it off. I mention the 'gentle taking off' because he has only just started wearing rugs, so is still a bit unsure. However, this is an Amigo Mio, which is nylon lined and when I took it off, both of us got quite a strong electric shock :eek: He jumped a mile, so I vocally soothed him and gave him a pat - bad move, another strong shock and he shot off across the field and wouldn't come back!
So any tips for preventing the shocks?
 
Good advice, I'll take back the brand new (Horseware) Amigo and swap it for a brand new (Horseware) Rambo....
Meanwhile, about those tips for preventing electric shocks.....;)
 
I have to very carefully run my hand under the rug before I take it off which seems to work sometimes, However, have had a massive shock in the past from a rug, never mind poor horse ! Best thing I think is to get a cotton summer sheet and use that underneath
 
Thanks Alma. Could try that. I feel like taking it back and seeing where I stand for a refund. It never occurred to me that the lining might cause a shock. I guess all my other rugs must have been cotton lined or whatever. Bit silly really, to make a rug with nylon lining. I don't want to put my 2 year old off rugging for life! Wonder what Horseware's take on this would be..... As I said, it wasn't a little shock, quite a strong one, a bit like touching the electric fencing!
 
LOL!!! I did find that funny - did same thing to mine today. Whoops.

I also made mistake of touching metal on gate - ouch!!

Anyway, I've reverted to old-school fold off the horse not slide which is much easier I know. Voila, no static.
