Just had a very embarrasing text from the farrier, my horses are overdue.

It must be old age creeping in. I used to just know when 6 weeks were up, then I started putting it in my diary. Now I forget to put it in the diary.

I suppose it has been manic at work for the last 18 months but thats no excuse.

I did wonder whether to put the next 2 years worth on my outlook at work tomorrow, if I remember. But then I'm always getting messages from my calendar saying meetings are overdue, after I have been to them, so obviously I dont take much notice of it.

Poor ponies will have gone 7 weeks, in fact the oldie was probably a week more than that. I'm feeling like such a bad mum.

How do you all remember

dont worry! they wont keel over from being a few days over!

have you tried a filofax? or calendar in the tackroom (one of those wall year planners) or making the next appointment before the farrier leaves.

Your only human! (and getting more human by the day) ;)

A cheap wall planner on the back of the tack room door helps me (think I got my last one from Wilkinsons). I also have a small diary in my first aid box with details of jabs, back, teeth appointments etc, along with when my mares in season (she's a bit of a horror) any accidents etc. Don't feel bad, nobody is perfect and you can't remember everything all the time. x

We use whiteboards or black boards on our yard to request services, bedding, hay etc
So i always write on there when my horse is next due to have her feet done

I don't, I'm hopeless. But they're not shod so I just text when they look like they'll be needing a trim (i.e. now) and he does them next time he's in the area.

If its a appointment for the horses I remember even if its 10 months away. Dates for myself are forgotten immediately.

I'm also late for everything except horse related things.

Calendar on feed shed door - make the appt before farrier leaves & write it down.
Then (fingers xx'd) I remember to write it on home calendar in kitchen too!

Reverse operates when booking vet appts, have to remember to take kitchen calendar down to yard

For self, when I get new calendar for following year, I copy over month by month all the birthdays, & 'date due' for MOT/Tax/Insurance (house, car etc) dentist etc etc onto new calendar :)

Thank you :D

Most votes seem to be for a calendar at the yard. Will buy one tomorrow.

Just hope everyone else doesn't put their appointments on it, or I will be very very confused.

My phone. At 3.30 this morning, as I was lying stressing about work, I decided to stick in a reminder about something I needed to do urgently. Bloody marvellous, dunno how I coped before. It ells me two days in advance about stuff eg livery due etc.

That would be a great idea, except I cant take my phone into work, so it spends its life in the glove compartment of my car. I sometimes remember to charge it, but not that often. If I want to phone someone I usually have to get the car charger out.

I bought an i phone for all those apps but cant say I use it any differently to my old one. Again probably a sign of old age.

I add everything to my phone as I book so when the farrier comes to shoe my horse I add the next appointment in there and then.

I always used to be able to remember things but think the grey matter is starting to blur things :-0

filofax :D I love mine. Always forgot everything I was doing before. Stronger than a diary and as you just have to replace the diary pages each year you don't have to rewrite out all your addresses/other information every flipping year! :D. I got mine from paper chase and love it :) still going strong over 2 years later.

Phones don't work for me they send me a reminder, I absentmindedly close it and forget to look at it later! I also tried a calendar on the back of a door (meant to be for competition dates), I looked at it a couple of days ago and I hadn't changed the blinking page since June so won't be bothering with that next year! Things like farrier I book in whilst he's here for next time and if I forget make a note in filofax to book in.

My mum used to be fab at remembering EVERYTHING (sometimes wasn't such a good thing :p) but her memory is not as sharp as it used to be so I got her a filofax for her last birthday and copied all of her contacts into it for her (never realised until then just how many people she knows!!:( ) so she didn't have an excuse not to crack on using it! she loves it and is still using it successfully :)

Defo recommend, plus they make a great addition to the xmas wish list :p :D

I put appointments on my Blackberry and set the reminder for 4days in advance. Honestly, I would be lost without my Blackberry, it holds my life

Horse is automatically booked in every 6 weeks by the farrier, I put the appointment in my phone to remind me to leave the cash.

I make an appointment each time he comes and put it in my calendar.

Last time I was on days so nipped up to poopick and yard owner had taken both my girls in for the farrier - farrier had an emergency so had had to rearrange my day - and when I appeared on yard, he took his calendar out. I put them in for 6 weeks without looking at my shifts and my OH had to bring my girl in last week due to me sleeping on nights :D

All my horsey/doggy appointments are in my phone for next year with reminders a week beforehand - injections etc :D

I am super lucky and have amazing YO who makes the appointments (in case of farrier / dentist) then sends me a text / facebook message to tell me when due, which I then transfer into filofax. The day before she will remind me again so I can leave cash with her. And if the farrier / dentist ends up coming a day early (which has happened) she pays it for me and I pay her back that evening.

Not spoilt at all - much!!

I use my Google calender as it email me with reminders and I can ask it to send them to me at varius intervals - farrier - I have a reminder a week before and the day before - the email arrives when instructed - you can set the appointment to repeat when you wish. I find it really useful - prefer emails to popups which can be really irritating.
