that they are too fat to ride your horse?

A very nice young girl came in responce to my share add, to ride my daughters horse this evening. She is 15, confident and actually quite a nice rider ( despite falling off when horse spooked in canter) but..........too fat.(cast your minds back to the thread of last night and recall the pictures of the owner on her horse and that is how this girl looked today )

Now before you get angry and call me a fattist or whatever, I have nothing against the larger rider but the problem as I see it is not actually the size of the girl but that she was too large for the saddle and quite small as well and because of this I could see my horse ending up with back problems. ( bearing in mind that he has only been ridden by a light adult for the last 7 years) I had to insist she use a mounting block to get on after I failed miserably to give her a leg up. She then ' plonked' down quite heavily on him. But like I said did actually ride him reasonably well.

I have made my mind up that this girl unfortunately will not be suitable as a sharer but don't know how to tell her.

Please can you folk give me some ideas on how to tell her nicely......

Just Lie, There isn't any play on words which will disguise the truth, and however floral you make it, She will still feel embarassed. The truth could encourage her to loose weight, but is it really your job to promote her lifestyle change?

You could say you have no problem with her riding the horse, but that she is too large for the saddle and you cannot afford to get another saddle for her to use....?

Just thank her very much for her interest, but you don't think she is suitable, or you have others to interview, as really, that's what you are doing.

Just tell her you don't think she's suitable. I wouldn't have let her get on in the first place to be honest, my horses backs are far too precious. But my horse is a fairly fine 15hh, I ended up clearly stating a weight limit in her advert as I had people far too heavy wanting to try her even though there was a clear photo of her.

eeek i had the same situation. but the girl was a friend who was deceptively heavy, and a very havy rider. i could tell my boy really coudnt carry her :/ id be really nice, and not mention being too big for anything, the horse nor the saddle. Id just say thanks so much for coming to try him, we really liked you but...

1. our horse is now lame :(
2.no longer looking for a sharer
3. thinking about our decision to share the horse and will get back to you if we make a decision, and then dont.
4. mention a weakness of hers thats not as harsh.Like i for instance cant ride dressage at all, so if i was trying out a dressage horse i wouldnt be suitable.

Hope that helps!!!

I'm sorry, but I don't think you're suitable for my horse. Good luck with finding one to share that is more suited to you.

And leave it at that!
