look at similar for sale. Ultimately they are looking for market value, so want evidence that horses that have done what your ned does go for X amount. They may ask for dressage sheets/results etc from you if it from a competition point of view

She priceless to me
It's hard to put a value on her. I bought her 8 years ago for 3000 irish pounds - she was broken just 6 months and hadn't even jumped with a rider! I know - bad mummy - I've had her so long and only insuring her now! But with the recent break in I've decided to insure everything - tack, trailer and horse.
Ok here's her stat:
13 year old Reg. Irish Draught mare. She's an all rounder and has hunted, HT, SJ, dressage, RC. She good to clip, shoe, box, travel, good on the roads, catch **cough** (well I've no difficulties - it's not my fault she loves her mummy
) We've haven't had huge success but she's great fun to ride
I'd have asked 8 - 10K euros for her if I was selling her last year. But then last year she won Supreme Champion at the Wicklow Branch IDHS show. We took her to the National IDHS show and she won her class but didn't win the championship.
So what do you think she's worth? Still 8 - 10K or more?

Mmm - and I'd guess she's by Cream of Diamonds??
It IS hard to value RID mares when there's a ridden angle. Easier if you're JUST looking at them as brood mares. But prices have been VERY healthy over the past few years and nice RID mares are few and far between.
I wouldn't value her quite as high if I were buying her as a brood mare as she's 13 and unproven in that career. A few years ago I bought a very well bred RID mare from Ireland who was 9 and unbroken - but a Quality Premium mare who'd produced a filly who was 2nd in a strong 2 yo class at the National. Paid double that for the filly as an ungraded 3 y.o. - but she had a whole breeding life in front of her.
But for someone who wants something to ride NOW with the option of breeding a foal in a year or two ... she would HAVE to be worth at least £6,000 - possibly more - depending on who wants her - and how MUCH they want her!
Oops - yes - silly me. That would seem to be in the right ball park - depending a little bit on how 'fashionable' the sire is in Ireland at present. There's a bit of prejudice towards KoD at present because SO many mares carry that bloodline, but he's Skippy on the dam's side.
Hi,
Yes, she's by Cream of Diamonds out of Gramaphone who's by Pride of Toames (Pride of Shaunlara). She's had one foal - a colt by Huntingfield Rebel. I don't plan on selling her, just to insure her so maybe I should just insure her for 10k euros.
But here's where I'm getting stuck - they want proof of her value - I mean is it the vet who does it, breed society, show a list of others for sale?? I just don't know where to go for that
Although in my search for others for sale I found these - OMG check out how much they're asking
Well, there's asking - and there's getting! And of course RID's are rather scarce in the USA still. If you look at the 3 year old filly, "Gorgeous Foundation Bred Irish Draught filly" for $18,000 - that's 12,000 Euros or £9,000 which isn't RIDICULOUS money for a 3 year old filly who looks like she'll definitely grade. Put it this way, I've turned down £3,000 more for my best 3 year old filly - who IS graded. But a few of the others are VERY silly money!
I think you need to ask the insurance company what 'proof' they require. Perhaps her 'CV plus copy ads for similarly bred mares would do it - but you DO need to ask them what they need.
I had this problem a few years ago when I was trying to get P insured unfortunately he is too old to be covered now
I would just give them a quick ring and ask what sort of proof they need. When I last talked to the insurance company they were very very helpful
remember you can look into Broodmare for sale as well as RC horses. For good RC horses (which she is) people will pay the money if they are safe and do the job!
