just wondering how you guys think he looks. He was a right old porker, but has been going for walks every other day up to & back from my village ( about a mile each way ) which is mostly hills. I can feel each of his ribs easily, his spine and his hips.

Apologies in advance if pictures come out huge, not very good at the whole resizing thing :)

Also, now he's finally starting to lose his winter coat (hurray!!) he seems to be getting more white hairs throughout his coat, and one or two of his white patches seem to be smudging. Any ideas why this would be, or is it just to do with his coat change. He's 3 now, and this is the first time he's changing colour with his coat changes.

Slight smudge to the small white patch on his bum.

From above. The top white patch has always been there, but its the one beneath it that has appeared.

Foreleg. Lots of white hairs.

Also under his mane, right hand side of his neck, a lot of white has appeared, and it's almost as if it's roaning out slightly. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks :):):)

He has two coloured/pinto genes, tobiano and sabino. It's the sabino that causes the 'roaning' and it can be hard to see in the winter coat and then appears as the summer coat comes.

Weight wise, you've done a super job and he looks great. :)

Thankyou for your lovely words, seeing him as he used to be once he came back to me from a lwvtb, lame (thats another story) and a right little fatty, its nice to see him how he is now. RE sabino, does this mean he will get more & more of the roaning with each coat change?

I love him, I want him!!

:D thankyou, he is such a lovely little man to know. You can do anything you want with him and he takes it all in his stride. He's been bored lately so i've been teaching him a few tricks, and he's picking them up within minutes! :)

It should show in the summer and be hard to see in his winter coat. My 15 year old chestnut sabino hasn't got more 'roaned' but she looks pretty much solid chestnut in the winter (two small white patches stay) and is covered in white flecks in the summer.

He looks fantastic :) the yard next to me has two very fat minis/shetlands and it's lovely to see a slim and trim one !

Ah, one picture didnt upload.

You can see it on his neck here and on his barrel near to his flank.

such a cutie ::p

Minis - ok all equines - do look so much better nice and trim. He is lovely! I had a standard shetty piebald and she roaned out quite a lot over the years, not all over but in patches. He looks/sounds like he might do the same. It's quite attractive though and a bit unusual.

:) thankyou. I'm thinking of getting him colour tested, i've been asked by someone who wants to use him on one of their mares if he's homozygous tobiano, so if i get him tested and he is, then she wants an archy baby :o

He looks great - it's very refreshing to see a trim shetland. Well done you!

I've got a standard and have been told in the past that she's skinny!! She's kept out with my others on a big 4 acre field all year round and is, in my opinion, just right.

His forelock :o It literally hasn't grown since I got him at 10 months. He's just gone 3 now. It's just a big bit of fuzz

He has the Birling bloodlines in him - he looks very similar to our previous stallion Stranduff Moonlight. We have a few that trace back to that stud.
