My EMS mare has (overnight) a small double netted (1” holes) net of soaked hay, (always completely emptied), plus a big shires soft net with timothy haylage thoroughly mixed with straw. This is hung from a tree and is free swinging. This was her soft net this morning. Every single strand of haylage extracted, straw left. HOW???

Talented lady! Imagine if you could harness that determination for something useful

A bit like the way my OH can leave every bit of healthy food on the side of his plate.

At least it will have taken her a while longer to select the hay she wanted while leaving the straw behind

Next time, try plaiting the straw and timothy and see if she’s able to unplait it and still leave just the straw!
