I pay £20 p/w DIY. This includes stable, all year t/o, small yard where we all get on really, really well, superb riding up on the Downs and horses 2 yards from my house which means I can feed in my pyjamas and no-one knows.

Why this is still a rip off-we have to do all yard maintenance ourselves-we basically built the yard, might have all year t/o but OK if you don't mind your horse in muck sweat and covered in white pellets having galloped around field as farmer decided to fertilise ground without telling us, livery yard owner randomly chucking out horses in your one and only field you are allowed to t/o in as per when she feels like it even though mine spent most of last summer off work and lame after being kicked above knee by such a horse, lumps of concrete dumped around gateway creating huge leg breaking holes inbetween to "even out the ground" and last and very much not least screaming kids using air gun to shoot at birds and rabbits around the farmyard, while very highly strung horse who you are trying to calm down is dancing around on end of lead rope....

Why do I stay there- ahhh yes...the never ending fun of constant surprise!....

I used to be in a yard similar to this one (10 horses together in a muddy stony field, JCBs driving past the stable etc). I thought it wasn't too bad at the time but when I moved to a yard where the owners are more considerate and knowledgable about horses, and where the atmosphere is much less busy and more relaxing, I noticed a huge change in my horse. It's suprising how much the atmosphere around a horse can affect him/her, sometimes you don't realise till you move them!
