following on from last nites post about selling my TB have had some lovely PMs (thanks peeps :) ) and have come up with this for an ad....what do you think? have a missed anything? also...where would you advertise a horse like this? have only done expensive horses in the past :rolleyes:

Lack of time forces sale of much loved horse.
15.2 hands bay TB gelding, 14 years old.
Has competed RC all disciplines but in last few years
has been a happy hacker. Not been in work last 6 months
due to lack of time. Would best suit a confident happy hacker.
Ex racer so NOT NOVICE RIDE. Would also make a great companion horse,
would live out 24/7. Good to handle, catch and shoe and good in traffic.
Good home a priority so price negotiable. Would also consider a long term loan.
M2M saddle available by negotiation.

also...what do i do about a pic? the best ones i have of him are of him jumping...but he's not really being marketed at that...he's a bit fat and fluffy atm so do i do a current pic or an older one from when he was competing?!! :confused:
 
Sounds good, although i'm always suspicious when i see people are advertising a horse suitable for riding but add in would make good companion always makes me think there is an underlying health or behaviourhal problem especially seeing as he's only 14, Sorry didn't see your previous post though so possibly missing something! Sounds like a lovely boy though good luck finding him a lovely new home, oh and picture wise i always think when selling a horse that is no longer up to competing a lovely head shot showing a kind eye is good! X
 
I'd take out the suitable for a companion bit- doesn't really mean anything. Also would take out the ex racer bit- just say that he's not a novice ride. Could you get back on him now and ride him a bit? Then when they ring about him you could say that he's been ridden again this week and has been fine etc. Also, I'd give an idea of price so that people who would want him for free don't call and people who think he's gonne be £500 don't get a nasty shock etc. I'd go for a competing pic and a fluffy one too so they don't come see him and get another shock!! Best of luck- he sounds nice.
 
He sounds lovely, but as others have said I think it would help a lot if you could get back on him and ride him for a couple of weeks. He will still need fittening work, but at least potential buyers will be able to sit on him and have a little ride.

Also, it is slightly ambiguous with respect to hacking: is he now retired as a hack because he cannot go back to competive work (injury?), or was it lack of time and he could do low level comps if fit again?
 
thanks for comments folks. he could definitely go back to low-level competing but hasn't done anything apart from two hunter trials in the last 3/4 years so is very rusty (i.e. would probably tank to a fence, go around like a giraffe in a DR test :rolleyes:)... so i really was trying to phrase that he would be better for a hacking home- does that make sense? :confused: (i just think that at 14 it would take a while to convince him that he CAN go in an outline! ;) )

will take out the companion bit but think the ex racer bit is a good idea- they are a bit quirky after all - there are lots of very competent riders who don't know how to deal with them? (so with Rocky cantering on grass can be more exciting than for most horses :D )

am planning on getting back on him this week actually. when i say he's been out of work he has been ridden...but very intermittently. he's the type you can leave for a month and then take on a hack no probs!

i don't know what to do re. price? i know he's worth peanuts but am wary of putting FREE because i don't want random skanky people ringing up for a free horse...i just want a nice home for him where he gets the attention he deserves :(
 
I'm no good at this but if you played around with something like:

If price is not that important and you could take him back if needed, I would put him up for loan only not sale. You would get more of an opportunity to check homes that way.

Yep, sounds better the only reason I'm saying not to put ex racer on the advert is that at this stage in his life, racing was (presumably) quite a long time ago and so doesn't have much bearing on him now- I wouldn't recommend that you don't tell people if they ring but just that if they read that part they may jump to conclusions about him. Also don't put "not a novice ride" in bold as it makes him sound like a nutter!! :D

I'd also be more inclined to loan than sell because if you sell at under £1k someone will be tempted to resell at a profit.

was considering trying to loan him but realistically unless i find someone amazing i've heard so mnay horror stories about loans going wrong... sometimes i think you can find a better home by selling?!! :confused:
