.....when bringing in from the field in wet and windy weather ?

my boy is generally OK but will have the occasional silly moment, like the other day he was calling out and jogging, spinning round !!!!! it does make me a bit nervous sometime as he so big but normally just use my voice and hes OK.
The thing i hate the most is when they all start running around me when I'm leading him in !!!

Beau walks behind me trying to use me as a wind break!

Lance just walks as normal, but he is part hippo and doesnt mind the wet.

Well normally very well. Until last night that is!

I bring two horses in. Their field is accessed through another field.

Last night I did the usual - brought one through, with the other following. I then clip the lead rope on the 'loose' one and bring them across together.

Thumper decided that it would be much better to gallop hell for leather around the field first though!

Wish I'd had a camera - he looked absolutely magnificent. YO wasn't very pleased though......

Mine is a monster - I have to bring him in using a chifney anyway though, so it doesn't make much difference when the weather is bad. He's more bothered about where the mares are than what the weathers like, tbh!

i do love watching them in all their glory galloping around the field as long as I'm not in the middle of it lol

oh had two run at him the other day as they had the wind up their bums and he just stood there and the parted flat out one either side of him lol i would have crapped myself with them two running straight at me !!!

On his toes in windy weather and sometimes lead him back in chifney as we lead across large field which is open on to the road (and have to cross road to get to yard)....

Generally ok until a cyclist whizzes silently up behind us in their hiviz stuff and scares the crap out of both of us!

Both are normally fine, but Meg sometimes tries to jog down the path.

Chloe won't always come to the gate when its very wet - she plants herself at the bottom of the field, and I have to drag her up whilst the other horses gallop up and down.

Megan's latest trick when it's time to come in is to walk away from the gate and hide behind a tree. Then once Chloe is out of the field, Meg comes galloping to the gate and screeches to a halt next to me

pickle just tries to hide behind me (which obviously was never going to work me being 5ft 7 him being 17.1hh) but apart from that pretty much normally which is dead slow! a pain when you are trying not to get soaked!

The shetland is usually the worst out of my lot, he can come in jogging sideways, i swear he thinks he's a 17hh hunter! Liz is generally ok although can sometimes run through the gateways, Bella the yearling is the best although she does come in really slowly.

If it starts to rain or get too windy, he hares round the field like a loon until I get him in. I've tried sticking it out, but he just gets himself into a state and has pulled his shoes off before! He only goes out for a few hours a day, so I don't mind! When I get him in he is just glad to be getting in the warm and dry so he usually follows me out of the field like a lamb!

sunday when i brought him in he was right over the other side with the others, then came galloping towards me i'm standing there thinking 'please stop please stop' he ran a circle round me and stopped for me to put his headcollar on lol then snorted the whole way back to the yard being his usual spooky self!!! xx

Mine are absolutely fine. We live in a very undulating part of the country with lots of hills and there is always a wind blowing, often very blustery, so all of my guys are quite used to it. Even little Cloud who used to be a nitwit in the wind in England is totally used to it now and never acts up.

I always bring my two in together and never a problem, unless TB is wet and grumpy!! So at it had been so wet and horrid yesterday I was expecting the worst ..... when I arrived I was not surprised to see TB hanging around the field shelter .... and he promptly came over to the gate as he wanted to come in, so I was waiting for the explosion ...... BUT to my surprised he was an angel and made no fuss at all

.... so I gave him soooooooo much praise and an extra carrot!

I wish!! Only when i dont want him in yet!!

When it is freezing cold, or chucking it down with rain, spooks has the amazing knack of looking miserable whilst standing in the most exposed part of the field, whilst also looking at me like i have 3 heads and 17 arms!

if he's the first in then he's fine, if he's the last he's an absolute twit and will drag you to wherever he fancies (usually the feed room or hay barn!) but thats the case whatever the weather

Wet, Maiden will walk along looking miserable. Windy, she'll jog and drag me in!
Berlin always does the same - we get out the gate and then spend 10 mins getting him 100yds up the track as he's a nappy bugger! Bit of wind up his tail might do him some good!

otto is a complete ponce to bring in in the wind especially if its dark and someone has left him out on his own which is not suppose to happen.
mine is also a total dope when it takes her fancy ,i dont think we have managed in the last 3 days to come in without going round and round in circles every 50 yards first!!

Chex is fine, unless we're walking into the wind/rain, then he'll hide behind me or walk sideways with his head tucked into his chest. Saying that, the other day he spooked in the wind and managed to knee my one leg, and stand on my other foot, both in a split second!

Mine are usually fine, although Septre and Amber hate walking into rain. Amber hides behind me (once put her head under my jacket, the dozy mare) and Septre tries to insist that she can walk backwards.

Gypsy and Jethro do not care what the weather is doing.
