Have been for some quotes for the living area of my new box. We want sink/hob, small oven/grill and fridge with two overhead cupboards. Seating area and small cupboard if possible. The electrics need sorting as the lights currently run off the car battery ( not ideal ) so we would need the electrics sorting to run off a leisure battery and hopefully have an outside hook up. I think we would need to fit an outside lower locker into the skirts to house the gas bottle. we have been quoted £3800 for all his

How easy is it to fit this yourself???? We are just worried about how to do the electrics and fit the appliances safetly???

I have no technical knowledge, but I do know that boss' husband (who is very practical, a farrier and can fix everything) got fed up doing living in the new lorry and sent it off to get done professionally. Depends how much time and patience you have....

tbh i think the quotaion is pretty reasonable. seeing as the fridge ( which is 3 way - gas, electric 24v & 12V) , appliances, leisure battery system , hook up would cost you around £1500 + VAT retail as they are specialist items made for leisure / caravan/ motorhome usage , the appliances need to be fitted to corgi standard, using the correct piping, with shut off valves etc, as do the electrical systems they also need to be fitted correctly and propely trunk wired.

I think it is definitely better to have the work done professionally - your box will be worth more for resale - than trying to DIY and it being done incorrectly, being possibly unsafe and looking like a amateur job. Just my professsional opinion.

I agree with pathelschoice. It would be worth getting it done professionaly, especially as you're not sure whether you have the right skills.
The £3800 price is really impresssive your average small locker will set you back a good £500.
A very impressive quote I'd go with it.

We are currently doing ours. Is hard work sourcing fittings at the right price and taking a long time. using a mix of new and decent second hand stuff. Fortunate that OH very practical and has lots of useful family members (gas heating engineer, electrician etc). Bear in mind the weight of items - we are being very concious of the weight and using lightweight but solid fixings. Is obviously going to work out a lot cheaper than paying to have it done and should look very good when done but does require a lot of time and patience.
