How Far Away Do You Need To Be From Farmers Spraying?

I read an article from Thunderbrook feeds on how bad it is for horses when farmers are spraying in fields close by, and that you should keep them in on these days.
My horses are out 24/7 so that would be difficult for me.
Does anyone know what a safe distance away would be?

The farmer will know. Spraying is strictly regulated with the operator having to go on courses, pass examinations, then the sprayer needs to be regularly tested by an official. The sprays used will also be rigorously tested before being allowed on the market. On top of all this, if the operator is negligent and causes harm, he could be sued.

If you are coincerned, why not just ask the farmer to warn you when he is spraying? Aproached politely, most will be pleased to keep on good terms with neighbours.

Edited to add, I'd be asking Thunderbrook for their scientic references to back up their warnings. If they are a responsible company, they should be pleased to do that!

Farmers generally wont spray when the mist will blow onto surrounding fields. For a start they don't want to waste expensive products and have been thoroughly trained to know what situations are suitable for spraying. My horses are surrounded by arable and I have never known any ill effects.
