How far do you travel from home to your livery yard?

Old Yard: some 20 miles away (so 40 mile round trip), went to this yard because of certain facilities which at the time, were good, and i sacrificed my time with horse to 4 days a week so i could afford the travelling. Over time, yard's facilities and running of the yard went downhill, rent went up and fuel went up..so moved.

New Yard: 6 miles away (12 miles round trip)!!... massive saving in petrol, facilities great, running of yard great, yard owners great, security great, I see to my horse 6 days out of 7,.... he's happy, i'm happy......job sorted! :)

Was at home but have moved her to livery which is about 25min drive, can be anywere to 50 if I hit town traffic, although I avoid rush hours :)

I am one of those lucky blighters, but I also have a livery facility.

My Owners travel anything from 2 minutes up the road to 25km away. I have absentee owners but they don't really count as I might only see them once every couple of months, or in one case, once in two years.

Personally, now, if I could not have my horses at home I would not have horses at all.

For those of you who travel in excess of say, 20 miles each way, is this for DIY or other? How many times daily do you do this? and do you ever think "God! I absolutely hate this/really don't want to go out in this wind/rain/snow/heat" ?

Current yard is about 5 miles/15-20 minutes away. Moving new horse to a yard 8 miles which is 20-25 minutes away tho Ella19 has raised a good point, I think she's only round the corner from me and I'd forgotten about single track lanes/traffic!
Luckily I work around the horses (verrry understanding non-horsey boss) so usually am going to/from the yard outside of normal rush hour.
In winter I suspect I may struggle to get there in the worst of the weather as it is quite hilly but for the most part it is main roads & he will be living out so if needs be I can drive as far as possible and walk the rest which is about a mile and luckily I could get away with just going up once a day if I needed. (YO is happy to do field checks/help out etc if needsbe too so do have back up.)
For me, I must have seen about 10 yards recently and although I'm in an area where there is lots of lovely hacking nearby, I'm also in a town & not far off the A3/M25 which makes it a popular commuter route so I have to travel & like to try & avoid commuter routes when yard hunting. Yard I've chosen is further than I'd have liked but I wasn't able to afford the yard I really liked and all other yards had compromises either in terms of no assistance, no hacking, limited turnout etc etc, this yard ticks all the boxes I would look for, I just wish it was 4 miles closer to home (but then it wouldn't have the great hacking!)

Did have horse about 3 miles away at one point, still took 20 minutes to get there tho, if not more, cause of traffic, I could cycle it in the same amount of time if I wanted to. When living in West London I had a 10 mile journey/30 minutes and it was pushing it in terms of fuel costs & time.

My horse was kept on part livery 30 minute drive from home. It was a major pain as it wasnt on the way to/from work, but I decided to keep him there as he is my first horse an I had been having riding lessons there for 2 years prior to buying him so thought they'd give me the support needed for my first horse. Livery also included a free group riding lesson each week which was a big deal maker. I've recently moved him to full livery in my village though because the travelling time, mucking out time, plus petrol was all a bit too much. He's now just a 2 minute drive from my house so all is pretty peachy.

My share horse is on a private yard 5.3 miles from my house. It takes 10/15 minutes by car depending on if I get stuck behind a tractor, or an idiot trying to park in town etc.

I cycled it once, got there in 35 minutes which I thought was pretty good. Unfortunately the return journey wasn't as successful and must have taken me about an hour in the end! I was shattered! Very unfit! But would be better to eliminate fuel costs as much as I could!

He is now literally a 5 minute walk up the track! Before he was about 5/6 miles from home. I'm loving the fact that I can come home from work, have a cuppa, get changed and walk up to see him. I walk my dogs around the area so I often see him several times a day. If there wasn't a fixed gate just near our own back gate, then i would be able to ride him into the garden!

Approx 15 miles each way but the environment is worth it, fab yard owner and well kept facilities. If I'm working I only go once and twice mostly when I'm on a day off. It's mainly a motorway journey. They were 2 miles away from home but I moved for a better environment for ALL of us xx

5 miles by road, less as the crow flies. Takes 10 minutes.

Once kept him 20 miles away on part-livery and I hated it - partly because the yard owner was not the person I thought she was. Last straw was when he got colic (luckily mild) and she didn't even offer to check him later so I had to wait for several hours to see if he was OK once the drugs wore off - never again would I have him so far away where I can't easily pop up and see him.

I keep mine at my neighbours private yard so no time at all. I waited for ages for a stable to become available so very pleased with this set up. It saves so much time and fuel costs.

Mine is 20 minutes away (15 miles) but we have great facilities and hacking so it's worth it. We are on DIY though so bit of a pain in the winter but not too bad because I work at the yard too so can fit in looking after them with my work. My mum has a horse and a pony there too so she helps out on the odd occasion I can't make it up. :)

Mine is 8miles away which takes me 12minutes, more or less. He's on full livery so don't have to go twice a day.

Exactly a 7 minute walk from home. I dont bother driving as it takes just as long to do a 78 point turn at the bottom of my tiny cul de sac. Its brilliant when hacking, i just hack home, stick em in the garden and have a cuppa (;
