Following on from the how far is your tack shop thread.....
How far do you lot travel to show your horses???
Last year (this year is pretty much out with the purchase of a new property and a new business in the wings - a Vet/AI facility with a Saddlery and Feed shop as well.....), we travelled to quite a few shows with one of our Cleveland Bay stallions and a CB mare.....
The first show we went to was 11 1/2 hours towing the horse float each way...... we went down the night before, camped overnight in the horse float, got up early, got plaited up, showed all day (we had friends show the mare, Gekko showed our stallion), I took photos, and 'supervised' (not well enough to be showing the horses myself), and then straight after the classes were done, we packed up and drove the 11 1/2 hours home again.....
The second one we went down to was only 8 1/2 hours each way.... YAY... less time in the car!! lol Again, down one day, camp overnight, show for the day, back home straight after the classes......
We did this a few times with travel times from 8 1/2 hours to 11 1/2 hours.....
Its nothing for us to travel 4 hours normally, these trips last year were just that bit further.....
The horses travel well in the float without any problems whatsoever...... and we just share the driving.
Not showing, but a couple of months ago, a friend and I drove about 4500 km delivering one horse and picking up 4 others to bring home...... YES we are mad.... but it went really well with lots of stops and stretches of the legs and water/feed stops for them on that trip!!
