My current yard is less than a mile from my house, its cheap, has nice stables, lots of grazinging (but bad fencing, weeds etc), no facilities but i have friends that i share turnout bring in etc with.

A yard that is five miles away (13mins) has spaces that has safe turnout and a nice school and large stables but i wouldnt have help with turnout etc. dont know what to do!!

i travel about 40 yards to the yard where i keep my horse

tell you what though, it's hell in winter as its through an orchard and i almost always fall and slip in the mud

is it possible to improve the current facilites at your yard at the moment?
or arrange an a agreement with turnout at the other stable?

That's tricky and am not sure what I would do in your situation. I suppose it depends on how often you need to use a school and how much you value your turnout help - which is the most inconvenient for you?

My horses are less than a mile away (luckily), same as you lovely stables, lots of grazing nice people BUT no facilities or fencing i have to put up electric fencing around fields. Have to say though it is worth it, as there is nothing worse than a bitchy yard or interference from people you don't respect or like - i have been there! As long as it is safe that is all that matters in the long run - Good Luck with your decision.

Ive have my own electric fenced paddock within a large field, but the farmer wont let me make it any bigger for the winter, its ok for the summer but not big enough for the winter, plus the other horse have tore it down once already!!

I suppose i could arrange something re turnout with the new yard but not many ppl like making a commitment with strangers, i know i wouldnt.

My yard is about 6 miles away. There is a yard about 1/2 a mile away which is cheaper and has better hacking, but no school/facilities (and none of my friends).

Blimey - you guys are lucky! I travel 25 miles to get to my yard. Granted, I do have someone turn out for me in the mornings, but apart from that I do it all. Used to live 10 miles away, but then moved in with OH and got married, but love my yard so much, wouldnt move. Would rather travel a bit further and be happy and know the horse is happy, than have somewhere on my doorstep that doesnt meet my expectations.

Our yard is about 5miles, 10mins car journey. There is a yard about 2mins down the road, but I need a school and good hacking..which the closer yard does not have.

8 miles 20 minute drive, I thought that was really good lol then again I did travel on 4 buses a day when I was a teenager so anythings an improvement on that.

About 200 yards!

I would think you're better to stick where you are, you know you've got help at the moment. If you move you will have better facilities, but could come unstuck.

My current yard is 2 1/2 miles so takes about 5-10 minutes by car and about 15 minutes by bike.
From October the yard will be about 5 miles away so will take bit longer.

Im terrible.

I hate being far away from my yard.

When I had C at her last yard I lived 3 mins away and when she moved to her new yard last year which was over 10 miles away from where I lived I moved to a place within a 5 mins drive of it.

When I also had my last horse before I got C I too lived a 5 mins drive away from the yard.

I think if I moved further away I would have to go onto P livery as I just hate the early mornings

1/2 a mile up a track from my house

depends what your priotities are but could you stay at your yard and then hire out the school if its hacking distance?

or im sure you will make new friends if you moved yards and can work out something with the other liveries RE tunrout. Perhaps they turn yours out...you bring theirs in?

Five minutes' walk and about six minutes' drive. Fields with stables and hard standing, no electric but we have water. I don't need any facilities at the moment though because my horse is a happy hack through injury (well hopefully soon she will be ride-able!) Planning permission is in at the mo so we can hopefully have an outdoor school soon

What is more important to you - a shorter drive and less chores, or better facilities?
