if you were looking to buy a new horse how far across the country would you go??

looking in scotland can't seem to find any nice horses, anyone know of any good advertising sites??

I travelled just over 100 miles a while back to view a horse! My friend brought one over from England and the lady who bought Ozzy (hubbies ex tb horse) took him to england!

I went 250 miles each way for the wrong horse, and for the right one I ended up going 80miles!

what are you looking for?

we're in the scottish borders, looking for a nice genuine horse ages height etc doesn't really matter as long as its a fun hacking horse with good personality for a reasonable price, would also been keen to do a loan with view to buy

I would be willig to travel a few hours to get to the ROI as I can't seem to find anything up here. And if I could get cheap enough flights etc I would be willing to go to the mainland.

I gave myself a limit of 2 hours travel when looking for a horse.

Of course, as is always the way, he was just around the corner!

Do you want something to live in or out, fine or chunky, no smaller than no bigger than, and what level of rider?
if you give us a definate idea of what you are after someone on here might know of just that horse. Being in the borders you are in good position to go north or south with ease.

well the horse can live either in or out since we now have a stable at a proper yard, no smaller than 14.2 preferably don't want a slow ploddy thing but something safe at the same time if you know what i mean, just for general fun, hacking fun rides, common rides, a little bit of jumping and the only must is it has to be able to hack out alone.

my dad is wanting me to go to see the local dealer for a horse, and i have to say one of the best horses i ever rode came from her, A 16.1 TB was the nicest chap, but no one round here has a lot of faith in her, import and exports everywhere

Got my horse from a dodgy dealer and so far he has been a gent, got my last horse from a well known respected yard and it was a nasty little git who atacked my daughter and was bad on roads, when they claimed he was lovely to handle and was fantastic on roads. Sent that creature back and demanded my money back!

I was prepared to travel quite a distance to get the one I wanted however I was advised by my YO that I should be able to find what I wanted within a 50 mile radius as there are hundreds of horses up for sale. He was right, I found our ideal horse about 35 miles away initially more than I could afford but with negociation the price came down & we had him.

I think people travel vast distances now due to the amount of horses advertised on the internet all over the country. Many more horses are available through other means more locally & you don't need to travel so far.

That is up to you. What I will say is keep your eyes and ears wide open and take it all with a pinch of salt, you run the risk of getting told lies no matter who is selling the horse to you, the best you can do is follow the advice of someone you trust and cover your back by getting a full vetting, a written bill of sale stating wether the horse has ever been known to buck, rear, or have any known vice. Also do not accept an exchage if it goes wrong, insist on a money back warenty in writting and witnessed.

I live in north somerset and travelled down to cornwall to get my girl, so 3 hr drive there and back, twice, definatly worth it! Also looked at horses in staffordshire and hereford. I drew the line at looking at a horse in norfolk though!

I live in Herts and got Fudge from the other side of Birmingham, it was a four hour drive each way, but he sounded perfect for me. Usually I would limit myself to two hours

I have travelled two miles, and, on four occasions, have done a 300+ miles round-trip. No regrets.

I live in Oxfordshire and i travelled to a village nr Padstow,Cornwall to see my mare a few months back.Took us 5 hrs but we stayed down there for a long weekend. It's about 260 miles down there from us. I paid a transporter to bring her up and it cost £400 which i thought wasn't too bad. I don't regret going down there one bit,if i had bought her from up this way she would of been more like an extra £2000-2500 to buy.
