How far would you travel for a horse?

I'm seeing a share horse on Wednesday but I've had a few people warn me about the distance. It's just under an hour away from my house with busses running every 20 minutes so I don't see too much of a problem but I was wondering if anyone had some input for me?

Have you shared/loaned/kept a horse miles away from where you live and found it too hard to cope?

I have never kept a horse more than 10 mins away - I have been lucky. But I know plenty of people who do a big commute to their own horses every day and they don't begrudge it :) Hope that helps - make sure you get photos!

Sorry if I disappoint but I'd say an hour each way on the bus is definitely too far away for a shared horse. I'd do it once a week I guess, if the riding was worth it, but wouldn't be able to face it 3/4 times a week...

I guess for me it doesn't seem too bad, I travelled for an hour, each way, 5 days a week to go to college for 2 years.

Anyway, I'll see how it goes on Wednesday, if I feel as though it's really unreasonable then I'll have to find another horse. Would be absolutely gutting though.

Although I would not personally keep a horse that far away, two of my livery clients live an hour away and seem to cope fine. Both of them come to see their horses at least five times a week come rain or shine. One of them has been with me for three years and the other 18 months. So if you are made of the same stuff that they are, then you won't have any problems. :)

I've been waiting for this for about 9 years so I'd probably walk for a day to get there! I'm just hoping this all works out, I think I've fallen in love with her already :-(
