How far would you travel to a competition?

Definately ifs he a good traveller.

I have to travel at least an hour for the main competition venues around me so its regular thing for me and my horses arn't bothered. :)

Absolutely!

When I was in Italy the closest competitions to me were 1 hour and a half away, and that was only a couple of times a year -- If you wanted to compete every month, you had to be prepared to travel for up to 6 hours (and that is NOT counting the shows at the other end of the country, obviously!).

The farthest I've travelled for a competition, personally, was just over 4 hours.

Yep, we would and were planning to until something nearer turned up! We went up to Draycott House from the other side of East Anglia last year and it was all absolutely fine!

My closest competition are 1 hour away so yep definitely, tend to travel 3 hours for BE events and they cope absolutely fine :).

You shuld talk to Sarah_Jane on here, she lives in Cornwall and competes at BE Advanced, and travels so so far to get to some events.

I've probs travelled 5hrs to important competitions, like PC champs, but my ponies are good travellers. On an average day I'll probs travel just over and hour though.

We travelled just over 6 1/2 hours to get to the inter-schools JWS champs (for one round!) so 1hr 15 is nothing :p go for it, and good luck ! :)

You will be fine, for BE events as Golden Match says we can travel between 5 and 10 hours (we usually stay away one night) but comfortably do 3 hours there and back in a day. If you have a horse that travels well and is used to it I really wouldn't worry.

Yup, absolutely, have done many a time.
I will travel further for eventing than for anything else, but 1hr15 is well within my limits for a 'one-discipline' comp.

Definatly. I have to travel at least that to get to any hunter trials I go to. A lot of the BE I have done is 3 hrs away and have done there and back in a day several times.

Try living in rural Wales, 11/2 hours doesn't get you far down the road. We travel 90 miles on A and B roads to unaff. ODEs and HTs.
The nearest indoor BS is 70 miles away.

We live on a rural isalnd in scotland (skye) and my friend used to have to travel atleast three and a half hours to go to unaffiliated and burgie is the closest to us! x

when eventing last year we travelled 7 hours to devon to compete.. [but if it wasn't for silly stonehenge it would have been like 5 1/2] however did have an overnight stay both sides because it was a) ridiuclous to go 14 hours in one day and had a friend coming bck with us the next day :)
1h 15 is actually rather reasonable for a HT we went 2 and a bit last year for a HT [but i was running three so it kinda cancells out the 2 hours!]

Yes definately as others have said our average journey is about an hour and on Friday we are going 4 hours for the festival finals (4 hours for a 5 minute dressage test ..must be mad....)

My longest journey to a competition was 4 hour drive, 6 hours on docks then 12 hours on ferry then hour drive the otherside. arrived about 7pm, horse came off fresh as daisy to compete in a 5 day show starting 2 days after we arrived only starting to tire slightly on last day.

The above was an extreme for me (Devon to Guernsey on slow cargo ferry) but the top riders regulary do long journeys like that. With correct management and sensible driving the horses cope fine.

as others said though 1h15 is nothing for a good traveller. Few weeks ago I travelled 1hr30 for one unaffil prelim dressage test at 'local' show centre! (there isn't much in North Devon through the winter months ;) )
