to find your ideal horse? I have seen adverts for lovely looking horses as far as Wales and Aberdeen (I live in London), and was wondering if others have thought about going so far to find the perfect horse?
Friends of mine were looking in Ireland for horses, I looked up and down the country, For me it was never an issue how far to travel, I wanted to make sure I got the right one. And I knew that the one I wanted would not come available so often so i just had to go for it. x
I flew to Aberdeen from London (on Easyjet!!) to look at a horse, I wasn't looking for a horse but I saw an advert for this horse and rang up, they said they would send me a video, it didn't arrive and I forgot about it, then a few weeks later the video turned up and I thought WOW i've got to at least have alook! So we flew to Aberdeen, they picked us up at the airport we looked at the horse loved it, they dropped us back into Aberdeen. We flew home then I ran round begging and borrowing until I had enough to buy her! I still have her 6 years later she fab and I wasn't even looking to buy another at the time (and she is the most i've EVER spent on a horse!!)
I would travel that far again, if I thought the horse was special enough!
I suppose up to about 120 miles. If the horse is closer you can try it several times and get your own vet to vet it which is an advantage. But to be honest if someone had told me of a really good on that was further afield I would go. The trouble is when I was last looking I went long distances and never found a good one!!! Most journeys were wasted as horse was not as advertised. However when I did find my mare she was just down the road!! So I could ask local people and have my own vet look at her. i also rode her several times and knew someone on the yard who knew horsey so I had insider information!!!
I flew from the north east to Gatwick to see my last horse, then travelled 7 hours each way in the lorry to pick her up, all in one day! Id like to say she was worth it but she wasnt! Now I limit myself to 3 hours each way.
Now people take video's etc that you can see previous to going to look at the horse it makes things easier. I would travel anywhere to see a horse as long as it was what I was looking for.
