How fit does a horse have to be to go cubbing? thought I might like to have a go after many years of doing nothing, and I have a horse which has been in and out of work since christmas,

That depends if you are unsure of how they might behave!

You can go cubbing and literally stand around in a field the whole time if you want - however if your horse gets a little excited you will probably want to keep moving to keep a lid on acrobatics!

I would at least want their legs hardened before I would consider going, have fun!

Thanks for the replys, cubbing is the pc name for it is autumn hunting, it starts late afternoon or early morning which is the best part of the day before anyone gets up, so peaceful

Depends on your meet - our first 2 mornings have been quite active and my cob, who I would consider reasonably fit (hacked out/fun rides etc over the summer), was struggling on the hills by the end. We also jumped 3 rails on our first morning which was a bit unexpected!

However next weeks meets will be just standing around maize fields, and flatter country, so he will cope fine.

If in doubt phone your local hunt sec and ask for when the slower meets are scheduled.
