I'm after a new combo TO light/medium. My horse has both 6'3 (that fit well) and 6'6 (that's a bit small) in his wardrobe so just wondering what rugs people find come up a bit small and what ones are more generous

I have amigos which fit true to size on my Connemara who takes a 6ft rug. I recently bought a premier equine rug for my welsh section a, and I went down a size (from 5ft to 4'9) which was just as well as it is very generous and plenty big enough for him.

what is your horse?

my mare has amigos, weatherbeetas, mark todds, jhl that all fit well. rhinegold where ok in length but too narrow in the chest for her. never really had a rug that fits that badly though

Weatherbeetas fit my lad well in a 6'9", as does my Turnoutmasta. I tend to find that the lightweights seem to come up smaller when I buy those, for some reason HW come up longer. My Masta Zing lightweight is short, as are my Derby House light and light-middleweights, and my Saxon middleweight. I buy all of his in a 6'9".

still a novice at this rug buying thing. he seems to be a 6 9. i saw a 7ft amigo that was too cheap to miss in a sale. he wore it 3 times then must have somehow got his legs fast in it and it was left in a pile in the field, every strap on it brocken. dont know how he did it but i learnt a lesson.

took 3 in off the length restitched all the straps and added indevidual leg straps rather than the single strap that the amigos have.

2 weeks later and no probs seems to fit as it should.

could have been a disaster

My lad usually takes a 5'9, Shires fit well, as do Mark Todds and have room to put another rug underneath. I have just bought an Amigo and a Fal Pro - the Amigo is a bit snug and the Fal actually looks like he'd need a 6ft if I was buying new.

ETA: he's a chunky cob though so that may have something to do with it - everyone else I've seen with Amigos/Fal etc has finer types.

I'm saving up for Premier Equine, I've one which is wonderful and very generous, just need 2 more for my other 2. Have always been happy with Bucas and Wbeeta, but really like the PE rugs now.

I love my PE rugs. They come up to size in length, generous around the chest (reduces rubbing) and are generous in depth so they tend to fit nicely around and under the belly slightly (which I like). I also like the removable necks, which fit well and don't gape. I hate my Rambo rug because it is short in length, not deep enough and tight around the chest.
PE have daily 'specials' which are cheaper than 'normal' price. I don't buy from them 'unless' it on a special.
