Im looking for a first pony for my two sons aged 3 and 4. I don really want a shetland more a 11hh or 12.hh ish.
Ive looked on most the sites I can think of but cant find anything local.

Oh God jayde don't even start me off! I spent the best part of 7 months looking for my daughters pony. We had one initially on loan which was advertised as an ideal first pony/LR/ First ridden. He stayed with us for 7 weeks and in that time kicked my YO, reared up every time i took him out of the paddock, charged at my daughter while we were poo picking, cornered her, the kicked her, lucky she is a slip of a thing and rolled under the fence and managed to totally wreck her confidence. He also was very agressive towards all of the other horses so he went back to his owners. He was the only one we found advertised that had not already gone by the time we called them.
In the end my friend, who had a lovely pony that she had said she would never ever part with, got so sick of our pony hunting saga, and gave her to us. And so we ended up with the complete saint that is Myrtle. she is exmoor x shetland and is soooooo patient, has really given my daughter her confidence back and now she is walk trot and cantering with no worries after just 6 weeks with the pony. All i can suggest is local free ads, local pony club, placing wanted ads everywhere like feed shops, tack shops, Pony Club, local shops. word of mouth e.g instructors, farriers, vets, tell them all you are after a pony and you never know they may hear of one. Godd luck, it may take time but hopefully you will find a gem like Myrtle x

There are a lot of internet sites to look at.
I would suggest googling "horses for sale" and your area.

Good luck.

My sons are 2 and 3 they have one gem of a section a who we have on long term loan and a 2 yr old section a who Im hoping will grow up with them but at the moment trying to find a shetland or small section a as lead rein/companion trouble is had such trouble with ponies in the past that I want loan or LWVTB and spend most days trawling the net and putting wanted ads on but cant find one in our area, sanctuary ponies have been mentioned but had two rescue ponies in the past and they were a nightmare.

contact your local DC of pony club, the lovely golden oldies get passed around by word of mouth. you could go to a few shows and look for the nearly outgrown saints and enquire if they are coming up for sale or loan. the really good small ponies are rarely advertised
