It's a LONG way off, but I know I want my own horse summer/autumn next year.

First I wanted a foal, then (after taking advise from here) I thought I'd go for a TB, but now I want a big hairy gypsy cob! I keep imagining myself on different types and how much fun I'll be having when I get it. I'm sure I'll get the right horse for me, regardless of breed, I'm just so excited I want to have a picture in my mind, if you get me? :P

Anyway, did you get the type you dreamed of, or did you find the perfect pony in a completely random horse? (eg. wanting a small, nippy pony type and ending up with a massive 18hh Clydesdale?)

I have always known what I wanted.
For 19 years I wanted a welsh cob after going on an amazing riding weekend in Wales.
My first attempt 5 years ago failed, I ended up buying a highland pony, and my daughter had a section C so she had a mini version of what I really wanted.

I eventually bought a 9 month old section D, she's now rising 3 and is wonderful, albeit smaller than expecte, but she's everything I wanted for all of those years.

I want another, just trying to figure out how I can afford it :D

I got the horse i had dreamed of. I have always loved chestnuts and i like sleek and elegant animals so my chestnut tb mare is just perfect. I didn't go looking for that though, i didn't go looking for anything, i just saw her and thought she was beautiful, then i felt sorry for her so bought her. yep, great reasons for buying a horse. It has worked out perfectly though despite her initial problems. My horse of a lifetime!

I'm not only completely indecisive (I think - lol) but I usually make the wrong decisions apparently.

The 2 horses I have owned found me. My first horse came to me through an out of the blue phone call from a cousin I hadn't spoken to for years.

My second (and current) horse, a friend had bought him for her daughter, he was too much for the daughter and they called me up to train him for them. Trained him daily and loved him but of course kept it to myself. Daughter lost confidence in him so they decided to sell. Offered him to me but I couldn't afford him but offered to continue training until he was sold.

Found out he was sold a week later but didn't realise it was my husband who had bought him for me!!

I am glad my horses choose me because there is no way I could find one I would want without wondering if there was something else out there!

I've always loved Clydesdale and after a 50 or so yr wait I have the dearest Clydie mare. I bought her at 6mths old and she's been my best ever buy. I love her to bits.

She now has two really lovely offspring - one just under saddle and the other growing in the paddock - they too have their mums wonderful temperement along with their dads refinement.

im not indecisive at all in eneything i do my OH always says il come a cropper one day but then il say well youl learn by a mistake lol i wanted a show cob and i wasnt stopping until i got him it had to be a gelding he had to be 5 years old he had to be full up on his height i didnt want him to have to much blah blah so i ended up in ireland what i didnt want is a chestnut they were my least fav colour but of course hes a chestnut n i love them now

Totally! I wanted a 14.2 chesnut Arab (blame Jinny!) didn't want anything big... Somehow ended up with a massive hairy shire x cob... But I always say she chose me. I'd seen her in her field and not thought anything of it but one day I was walking past and she came over and whickered to me, so I stopped to fuss her, ended up falling in love, did some digging, found out she'd basically been abandoned in this field, she was hugely fat and had sore feet, took me a while and lots of digging and worrying but I ended up buying her.

My youngster is the opposite, he's exactly what I set out to buy, I wanted a proper piebald gypsy cob with good breeding, hopefully to make 15hh, and he looks set to make that.

When it comes to all things horse, then am very decisive. (its just clothes shopping & going out that makes me wobble with indecision :o )

Current fuzzy is the ONLY colour that I had never had in the yard, so set myself a target to locate the colour & type I wanted, age was a little immaterial (but wasn't going into double figures, tho happy to have taken unbacked).
2 weeks later whilst idly pottering through adverts, bingo, the right 'sort' popped up.

Saw current Fuzzy 2 days later & tho a few issues with seperation, shoving about etc, made up my mind there & then - luckily owner agreed within a short space of time so 2 days later big fuzzy arrived :)

had a child hood dream of a black friesan or black beauty type. well look at my sig shes so not black, but i definately have atype i love the big neck and medium weight, not cob but not tb.

All my life ive wanted a palomino or liver chesnut Arab, my dream horse was one that is forward going, amazing jumper and loves hacking. I always wanted something 14.2 since I wanted to keep it forever!
When I was looking for a horse we were shown gypsy cobs, little show ponies etc. Didn't get on with any of them so we wait another 4 months so we didn't rush and by something I'd not get on with. Although I really wanted my own horse.
4 months later, get a call from a family friend saying they know a horse for sale. All we got before we went to view her was written on a piece of paper, "Kalyeigh, 14 years old 14.2hh liver chesnut"
Didn't know what bred. What she'd done etc
Go view her, and this is what we view.

Maybe it was "fate", I dunno.

I'd always had very pretty show pony types as a child, then moved on to big TB/WB types as an adult. After a loooooong break from horses I fell head over heels in love with a 15hh very chunky Irish cob mare. I have had more fun with her than with any other horse I've ever had.

I was looking for a showjumper, preferably a gelding between 16-17hh, bright bay or chestnut was what I pictured. I went to look at a horse that matched the description, but he was just too sharp for me. The YO said "we've got another horse for sale, she's not what you'd imagine a jumper to look like though" and took me round to see the "14.2 piebald cob that jumps like a stag". It took me all of 2 minutes to fall in love with her and I took her home there and then. So no, not indecisive, I knew as soon as I sat on her that she was perfect!

I'm loving all these stories :D You hear so many times that people didn't get a good horse, but this has given me hope!

I rode a lovely Haffy mare today, instead of Ned...my goodness, I'm in LOVE!

I wanted a big black arab before I met J (I was 11, forgive my insanity). I ended up with this monstrosity...

However, I've always had a weakness for highlands so it's not surprising that the next two look more like this :p

I wanted a 15.2 big bold bay Arab, I had the absolute picture in my mind.
So I went out and bought a 3 year old chestnut colt
Kept him as a stallion and leased a bay mare, the strongest bay family there is.
Crossed her with the stallion to get my big bold bay
What did I get?
A chestnut filly, image of her sire :D:D:D
tried again...
Got my Big Bold Bay :) exactly as I had imagined, but do you know what?
it was the chestnut filly that really hit the spot :)

Yes. I always dreamt about having a bay gelding, 15h and 9YO.

So I end up with a 14.2 5YO skewbald mare :o Wouldn't change her for anything though.

I'v always known what sort of horse I needed, and then found accordingly. Same for my sister. I needed a confidence giver who wouldn't stop and who'd help me out. In my head, this was a nice, sensible 15hh cob. I got Cheeky who was a 15.2hh 22yo TB with several screws loose. He was amazing, and definitely the perfect horse!

For Al, she needed a reasonably talented (to go to BE Novice at least) horse. Not too big (16hh max) or 'bulky' (preferably no bigger than a connie x) as she's quite small and doesn't like being dragged around. Preferably a schoolmaster to show her the ropes. Got Reg, who's 16.3hh and virtually untouched- had only raced and briefly hunted. He's pretty awesome though, so it's all worked out well!

I'm really really really indecisive, I drive my OH made that I can't even decide what to have for tea some days! However when we bought our gelding as a 4year old he ticked all the boxes and even though he was the first horse we'd been to see our hearts ruled our heads and we bought him!

We got our little mare by accident, we weren't looking for another horse but her owner was looking for a loan home and I persuaded my OH could we have her on loan until someone more pemanent to loan her came along. OH was insistent that due to her size ( she's only 15.1hh) she was on the small size for him and that if we were looking for something we'd want something younger ( she was 11) we could have her for 6 months only. Nearly 2 years on and she's properly mine ( we bought her in Aug this year) and OH loves her to bits, especially as she jumps like a stag! :)

I've never once been 'horsey shopping'! So I'd guess I'd have to say no lol....

I have the best of all words - Welsh D, a TB and a big gypsy cob colt ;) Just need a nice irish/warmblood type now!!!
