A couple of stood up shots for your opinions/CC.

First of all:

Olly, 14.2hh cob, angle of picture wasn't great as the aisle in our barn isn't very wide and if I go too far away he moves! He isn't really that croup high!

Next up:

Millie, 16hh? TB. Is it me or is she getting more croup high?!

And how is she looking as well?

Nope.... I can see she has lost muscle or put on fat... looks dull to me rather than poor.

I agree that millie is looking on the poor side (in the first couple of pics at least). Cob looks a nice weight :) what age is millie?
It could be age/weight but she almost looks a little roach backed - better condition on her yesterday though, just needs to gain some muscle :)

The last photo does look like she's more croup high, could be the photo though!

She certainly doesn't look fat to me, there's a visible hint of ribs even in the poor light of the last photo (possibly why she looks dull to the above poster?), and her rump looks quite angular.

Millie looks a bit poor to me, she looks a little ribby and her quarters are very weak. I agree she looks like she is getting more croup high, how old is she? Perhaps it is a late growth spurt!

Olly is a nice weight, could do with a little more muscle, he does look a little slap sided but that might just be the photo.

Both are lovely, Millie has a beautiful face :)

Millie is 5, 6 in February. She has absoliutely no topline as she has only been in full work since October so am building her back up. Also had bloods done today to make sure there is nothing else going on. Do you think she needs more weight as well as topline?

Cob looks fine but Millie imo looks quite poor. Not great pics tbh, would be better to stand her up like in the April pic. She looks to have put a bit of weight on her belly but her hind quarters look weaker now than in April (might be the pics though). I'd like to see more topline.

yes definitely. tbh horses can still grow at 8 years... tb's mature younger so is said.

I've heard lots of good things about pure feeds for tb's not that I am advertising but worth looking into diet aswell as the exercise.

HQ's are definitely weaker. She had a very serious accident in April which resulted in 8 weeks on field rest, stress meant she dropped down to about 400kg so spent the next 2/3 months being fed up, after that I did my back in so she hasn't really done anything since April when that photo was taken.

Have put her on the D&H build up cubes, readigrass, speedibeat and linseed. She also has think pink vit/min supplement as well.

that explains a lot about her condition. I ride a more senior horse and have her on rowan barberry senior support - but not because its for senior horses, because its got sumo powder (helps muscle development) and pro/prebiotics, non heating, lack of molasses and has vits/mins in it - have seen a huge improvement in her, correct work has built her muscles up (though she needed the feed with protein in to help that).
Your mix of feed sounds a good combination. There are a variety of brands out there. May be worth emailing D&H as they may be able to offer you more info.

For a TB at this time of the year i would say millie looks absolutly fine! Wouldnt want to be shifting any weight off her especially not at this time of the year :D

I agree ^^.

She's looking loads better than the 1st pic of her and you said that she had an accident so lost a lot of weight - all things considered she's looking quite well! Wouldn't hurt for her to put a bit more on but I wouldn't be overly stressing unless she's continuing to lose more weight?

Thanks, I have just finished a bag of their SumoMB but didn't find it made much of a difference.

Cheers hun, how long did it take with yours?

OK cheers, I'm so used to chunky natives that she looks very slim to me!

I actually think your TB looks fine. Yes, she needs muscle - but that will come from work, and not just school work. You need to get her out walking on the roads for at least an hour a day, building it up to trotting and then canter work.

She looks croup high in the second photo because she's not standing square, her head is down and hind legs under hear.

Love your little cob.

Thanks amymay, she is hacked twice a week up hills, foes twice a week on the pessoa and twice a week schooling mainly in walk to get her using her back legs and bending/flexing with a little trot work as well. She canters on hacks but isn't balanced enough to canter in the school yet.
