Henry had all his bedding and towels washed this weekend, and he too was given a bath - so how has he managed to set so smelly again already? He REEKS!
How is he managing to smell so bad?

Has he done The Moos trick?
Take his collar off and give it a wash - may have poo trapped in it.
If its not that rename him The Stig or The Minger..........

Smell his paws-seriously. Do they stink? I find that's sometimes the source of stench-obviously because of the sweat thing if they've been going mad and in case they stepped in stuff. Euw.

It's not a poopy smell (his collar got a good clean too), just a whiffy dog smell

I always found whilw worknig in the vets that cockers were smellier than some other breeds...!

Is he due to be clipped again? St Sweep gets stinky when he starts to get fluffy round the edges........

Oh Yesssss I can smell it now,as I blow dry a spaniels bum after the clip and bath..the joy of it! Put him onto the BARF diet so his poops are hard..that will keep his anal glands empty,spaniels seem a bit over productive in that area..Urghhhh!

Ah yes, my favorite part of grooming is "cocker stench".
Bad skin, infected mouths (either gums or the fold of skin on lower lip), nasty ears, yeasty feet are all sources of whiffy cockers...just to name a few off top of my head.
Other things to consider, if he's a boy, how's his erm...AIM? Peed on legs tend to whiff pretty good. Though I don't find that very often in cockers, happens more with terriers, oddly. Or, how are his water works in general? Some dogs, particularly older ones leak urine in their sleep, and they can stink of it.
And as mentioned, tummy or anal gland issues are a few other sources.
Going back to my breakfast now !

His bottom and waterworks are fine, and he is neutered so no joy there either He is due a clip though, had to cancel the last one. I really must get my hands on a set of clippers soon and get him sorted out

I can seriously sympathise, I currently have two stinking Cockers -thankfully one is being returned to her rightful owners tomorrow.
I just don't know what it is with them, no matter how well I wash and clean them and all their gear as soon as they return from a run they stink the house out. And just to rub it in mine has decided to go to sleep on all Yogis freshly laundered and reproofed rugs, at least I can take them out of the house though.
Oh well back to scented candles then,

I am keeping the scented candle industry afloat single handed (or should that be Henry keeping it afloat single pawed)
Happily I will be borrowing some clippers this weekend, sweet smelling spaniel will be making a reappearance thereafter - phew!

Seriously, the smell of spangles is a reason why I have never owned one, do they not all smell?! I have met alot of very doggy smelling spaniels! Must be something to do with all that coat, especially if they get wet alot I'm guessing. The american cockers I know dont smell, but that is because they are continually groomed to within an inch of their life and only ever smell of hair products and shampoo! They never get wet either unless bathed. Poncy show dogs. Turn him into a poncy show dog Han, and get him one of those little suits!

See, I had no spangle experience before Henry so I had no idea they were so whiffy Ah well, tis a small price to pay

Pippin doesn't smell, even though she is an outside dog atm. She had the groomer out the other day... I gave up trying to get the mats out myself. Took two of us to hold her still and she licked us to death. Washed three times and water still coming off brown....yuck.
But no smell. Although some groomers I spoke too offered a doggy aftershave when they finished. (I did not employ these as they sounded like the sort of person who would be horrified at being confronted by a working cocker or the fact she ran straight into the pigs infront after the groomer after bath and haircut)
So yes maybe some perfum...or a hose. (the groomer gave me a lecture on not hosing a dog as it was cruel.... :O I did tell her I did it to OH after he went in with the pigs too)

My JRT absolutley stinks! i took him to the vets he gave me Malaseb anti-fungal shampoo to try and we have never looked back.
He is bathed once a week and he has to be washed twice, first time shampoo worked in then rinsed off, and the second time i have to work it in and leave it on for 10 minutes (easier said than done!!) then rinse off.
The musty smell you describe sounds the same as my dog used to smell, it's due to a fungus that lives on the dogs skin. I would say it is well worth a try.
