I couldn't see a post for the weekend plans for this weekend so thought I'd start one!

I am so excited to have actual plans again - this time we are off to Ruth Hole's for a weekend Dressage camp, 2 nights of dressage fun with her and Jill Day. Stormy did try to swerve it by going into Rossdales last week but got given the all clear to go so finally I feel like we are doing proper stuff! I am hoping to get Stormy used to working with other horses with aim of going to her first ever competition soon. As an ex-racer she does find it very exciting, and while she is good and doesn't actively try to kill me or anyone around us, the giraffe on speed look is not going to cut it at dressage.

I've never been to this sort of camp before as Nickel was not up for that sort of thing, I feel after 2 years away from competing it is good for me to get some confidence too.

Enjoy the camp!!

We have plans too - we're boxing to a friend's arena for an 'away' lesson with our usual trainer this afternoon, then a pole work clinic at home tomorrow.

My two best friends from Uni are coming to stay on Saturday. They both have young children, so it will either be a big night out or both of them wanting a big child-free sleep ?. Sunday plans will depend on which way it goes...

In my lesson on Wednesday, Blue showed a definite interest in the jumps that were up in the arena. (By which I mean, I parked her in front of one while I sorted myself out before mounting, and she promptly took herself over it and went on a gay trot around the arena refusing to be caught. Horror.)

I didn't have time to ride yesterday, so just gave her twenty minutes loose in the school for her PSSM-mandated run-around. I decided to put up a little jump, just to see what she'd do. I didn't ask her to go over it - all she does during her PSSM time is buck and fart and hooley with no direction from me, other than encouraging her to keep moving.

Anyway, I think she liked the jump.

I let her go over it four times but put it away when it became clear she wasn't going to stop of her own accord!

Beware of treating your PSSM horses. They start getting delusions of being sports cobs.

Into week 7 of 24/7 confinement sigh. Lots of light at end of tunnel now as walking out in hand as much as possible, ridden 30 mins per day in walk with a few strides of trot and sound. Hopeful for vet sign off next week to start slowly getting back to normal.... Why does my bleddy horse always injure himself (yes it was self-inflicted!) in the late spring/summer? Wouldn't mind so much if it were during the winter!

Enjoy camps/lessons y'all!

Expecting a call today from the vet to update us on how our big fella is getting on (he had surgery on Wednesday to help sort out DDFT injury). All being well, we will be picking him up on Sunday so today/tomorrow will be spent cleaning the stable! Can’t wait to see his big smushy face.
Calming cookies and gut balancer have been ordered ?

Working- yawn. Then Sunday I’ve got to look after my uncle for a week as parents going away for a small holiday. Quite how I’m going to fit it around work and horses, I don’t know. He needs pretty much full time care but my mum was desperate for a break. Got to get my head around all his medication this weekend. Fortunately the two smaller dogs are going away with them so I’ve just got JD and the rest of the zoo to do.
Roll on next weekend, I’ve just got to keep him alive until then

In the last week Maddie has had a body worker appointment, the dentist and yesterday her saddle was adjusted, so hopefully that's a full service done for another couple of months at least (other than the farrier of course!).

Today we had an in hand clinic with Ryan Shannon. We usually do our in hand stuff with Diane Thurman-Baker, but this clinic was at our trainer's yard, so the opportunity seemed too good to miss. I am so flipping proud of Maddie. We had already started working on the half steps with Diane, mainly to help Maddie sit and 'push' in the trot a bit more, and she tried so hard to please today. After doing some work in hand with Ryan, my trainer's daughter jumped on and did some ridden half steps as well - I didn't really feel brave enough to be on board when the whip was tickling Maddie's hind legs!!

Short video clip here.....

Tomorrow trainer's daughter is doing ele 59 on Maddie in advance of their Regionals in August - no pressure, just an opportunity to work out which bits need more work. I will be helping the rest of the day at the show with whatever needs doing from stewarding to adding up sheets, and I think a little bit of writing. Sunday will be quiet, then Monday we have long arena hire so we can start working on our Novice AF test.

Hope everyone has a great weekend whatever you are up to, and that the sicknote 2 leggeds and 4 leggeds make a good recovery. :)

I will tomorrow when it arrives if I can, but its a sort of a 'rescue' so a delicate situation, just in case someone recognises her i may have to wait a little while. Exciting though..

Yay!! I’ve been waiting for this thread. After a sad week i was looking forward to hearing what everyone was up to.

I need to get back in the saddle so hoping my lovely friends will meet up with me for a hack or 2. We had been doing good on our weight loss before this week so hopefully feel up to concentrating on that again.

I have a show the first weekend of august that has been the dream to ride in. Very small, informal agricultural show but local to me. It would be nice to come last but not because we’re chunky for a change

Have a fab weekend everyone ?

Start of a much needed week off for me, and very much spoilt brat territory too ? - collected my car today, tickets for Centre Court and part Amex hospitality on Sunday, lunch(es) with old coaches/colleagues at some point mid-week, and have lessons booked on three different days currently.

Plus the choice of Gold Cup polo, a FBHS demo, and/or going to Barbury but that’ll partly depend on who gets into the Wimbledon finals!

Have a fab weekend everyone!

We had our best lesson to date yesterday. Chilli is a lot less cocky and more rideable away from home, which meant we could get straight into proper work instead of spending the first 15 minutes getting some relaxation.

Here’s a video from the end, including some great comments from our trainer and a sassy mare trying to bite Chilli as we trotted past ?

Got back from camp late last night, shattered, dusty and a bit achey but we had a good few days. Went with a friend who took her horse to hack (thetford forest has lovely hacking). We had fun. Our horses bonded a little too well ? so there was a lot of having to ‘manage’ two neurotic horses who couldn’t bear to be apart. We did manage it though, once we worked out the best way to deal with the anxiety (she escorted me to my lesson, handed me off to the group so Bertie could attach himself to another horse and/or I could work on getting his focus on me and the job in hand, and off she went). Not ideal but it’s all about the experience and working out how to get the best out of your horse in less than perfect conditions!

Lessons were good. We stayed in a lodge on site which was bliss. Company was fun and I got to know Bertie a bit better again. We did camp last year but solo so this was a new experience. Friend’s horse is 24 and never got attached to another horse before so she was surprised too - Bertie is clearly irresistible!

Ended with a lovely long hack through the forest, which was a great way to unwind and close out the trip.

Another quiet one for us.

Have a lesson booked tomorrow but Raz hasn’t felt quite right the last few days so have asked my trainer to have a sit to see if he feels what I’m feeling - suspect it may be time to call it quits as we’re back to how he felt when his hocks and suspensories were starting to niggle and it’s not been that long since he had them medicated. ?

At camp! Omg Bog and Bear together so annoying. The shrieking when in seperate classes is relentless! But I xc schooled properly for the first time on this horse in 5 years ? he’s usually a nightmare in a clinic type situation.

Here’s him saving my bacon when I discovered le meuix gloves don’t grip when everything is soaked..

New instructor to us said he’s an absolute machine. Proud mum!

Very sad about AllStar B :(

Yes!!! Fab instructor and really got the measure of us- need to work on the canter. He absolutely loves Boggle, within 5 mins was laughing about the amount of “character”. Which he hadn’t done anything to particularly show at that point, just in the eyes ? Also has absolutely no issues with how bold he is- so that’s put my worries to bed a bit!

Foal watching and an SJ lesson tomorrow.
Katie’s boyfriend is taking her away for a mystery weekend. She doesn’t know it yet but tomorrow she is show jumping Dolly! So kind of the new owners. He only asked if they could visit and they’ve set up a practice ride today and SJ tomorrow.
