That we could get a fairly unfit cob ready for a morning's hunting on Boxing Day?

I may be way, way, way off the mark as I have no experience of hunting or fittening for hunting so don't jump on me :)

For one reason or another Olive has been ridden fairly inconsistently for the last 12 weeks and it is fair to say she is now only in very light work. Hacked for 1.5 hours twice a week and schooled for 30 mins twice a week....

How likely is it that I could get her ready in this time?

A friend who rides her had the sudden and brilliant idea that she might like to take her (I know Olive would LOVE it) and as is my birthday on Boxing Day I can think of no better present than seeing my girl all ready at the meet.

I would love to hunt but hate to go at speed so can't see it happening - this would be the next best thing!

Hmmmm came back to say that I think it is a fairly unreasonable timeframe :(

Came back again to say that she is barefoot..... do any barefooters hunt?

Perfectly possible. She'll have a fair level of fitness from being in work, even if it's light. Now you need to make a concentrated effort to up it. She'll need to be ridden 6 days a week and worked progressively harder with a plan in mind.

Also bear in mind that she could leave the hunt after the first hour easily enough.

My little cob hunted last week barefoot. SOOOOOO glad he didn't have shoes on as we were trampsing about proper bogs (weather's just been awful :(). Meant he could canter up the roads without me worrying too much and was very surefooted.

Kallibear - I just this minute finished reading your report! Looked like you had a great time! Piper looks very similar to my girl, I am encouraged by your experience so thank you!!
