How long before foaling should...

your prob better putting this in the breeding section!!! as for the working part well each mare is different!my friends mare stopped working when she was about 3 months gone she totally changed shape and didnt like the work!! another friends mare has only just stopped workin it was only light work in the last month!! and she is due in april. as for the oldest again prob depends on the mare, my mare was at stud last year and unfortunately didnt take and she is 20 however another friends mare was 25 when she concived her last foal! hope this helps!!!

i took a 2 hour trek out in the riding school on what we thought was a wee fat pony, went to catch her up for work the next day and she had a foal sleeping beside her!

obviously not the best plan to work them until they drop but she was quite happy flying along the beach the day before and never put a foot wrong the whole ride!

oooh you just reminded me of the pony at my yard!! child wizzing it round jumpin etc, got asked to look at the mare by YO friend as i have had foal, looked said oh my god its gonna burst!!! huge milk bar, waxed teats, the works said that pony is gonna drop anytime soon! (hadnt seen the pony for a while as had the summer off due to my mare being at stud!!) mare quickly gets turned out in the mare and foal field as field it had been in previously has far to many horses and some are huge although lots of land!! and the next day cute little foalie on the ground!!

A local Riding School bought a mare and were using her daily. they went to bring her in one morning and she had a foal!! I think generally they can be worked lightly until the last three months, but of course they do vary. A mare can happily carry a foal in her twenties as long as it is not her first, which could cause problems.
