How long before i venture out alone ?

Got new pony last saturday , so far so good , settling in nicely, she's 13 and done lots of shows and pony club. Have been out in company 3 times , last horse really nappy and i never managed to get off the yard alone so am a bit paranoid , New pony has given me no reason to think she would.nt go and i am itching to have a little try , do you think it's too soon or should i just go for it ?

Give it a go and stay positive

When we got my gelding, I took him out on his own for the first time after a week. What he didn't know was that it was my first time out alone on horseback..ever! More enthusiasm than sense in my case

We had a few 'moments' but kept it nice an local and it was not too long before we were going all over the place.

I should add, H was only 5 at the time, and pretty green when it came to hacking.

Sounds like you are ready, just make sure you stay nice and positive, there is no reason not to after all you have bought what sounds like a nice experienced horse who should know their job and it should be a troublefree and fun experience. Just remember if you run into trouble make sure you win even if it takes you 3 hours to get out of the yard, it may be that horse might be a bit uncertain the first time in a new place but letting her turn for home will create even more problems in the future. Could you have a friend on hand to walk with you just to check she is happy to leave other horses and then if she tries to nap your hands on the ground can make sure they go forward.

Definitely go for it, good to know early on how they go alone, however would possibly recommened a route that you have already done in company as one less 'scary' thing for pony taken out of equation as she should recognise where she is going a little, and wouldn't go for a huge hack but maybe just a quick 20 - 30 mins round the block if that is possible.

I always find it's a huge confidence boost the first time I take a new horse out by themselves.
