My rising 6 TB has been out of action for almost a month now due to ill fitting saddle, going to call vet back out Monday to arrange sessions with the back lady. The area that is tender is where the back of the saddle fits - just to the sides of her spine. When pressure is applied she dips her back slightly.
Does anyone know when i can be expected to ride her again? obviously each horse is different but would be good to know as an idea..........hoping the vet will say its okay to start some long reining/lunging next week. She is stabled at night and out from 8am till 5pm daily. She has windgalls and with the warm weather and not being ridden her back fetlocks are like balloons  never seen them this big and squashy before (she is sound with them) - previously she was ridden 4 - 5 times per week, 2 x hacks (road work and canter work up hill mostly) 2 x 40min schooling sessions and perhaps a 30 min jumping session every 2 weeks or so. She was very fit. Presumably these will go right down once she is doing work again?
Shes actually taken to being off very well, for the first 2 weeks she was quite a handful but shes simmered down again now.

Any thoughts/experiences?
Thanks

Well, to stop the windgalls coming up she'd be best being kept out 24/7 really. As for the back - well, presumably you now have a saddle that's fitting properly? It all depends how bad her back is I guess. A session with a decent back person could sort the issues and then, in all honesty I wouldn't see the issue with hacking her lightly for a bit and lungeing etc to build up her muscles. This is based on the fact you said she was pretty fit befopre so therefore she is unlikely to have lost a lot of muscle in a month. Certainly you should be able to lunge her but I do think some steady walking and hill work helps strengthen back muscles.

The saddler was due to come out end of next week to fit with a new saddle but wanted to get the all clear from my vet before she comes.
24/7 turn out is a possibility :) thanks
