How long before your horse started to improve on antibiotics?

I know each horse and illness is not the same, but i just wondered how long it would be before my horse started to improve. It's early days as he has only been on them since Monday evening. He is on 40mg once a day of Baytril. He has a bacterial infection in his throat. He just seems to be a little worse today if anything. He didn't respond to the other antibiotics he was on (can't remember the name) Maybe he will be the same on these who knows. Any info how ever small would be appreciated, thanks.
 
I've always seen an improvement within 12 hours, but I've never had a horse need Baytril - I think it's usually kept back for infections that other antibiotics won't cure, like with your horse. I've used trimethoprim with infected wounds and with a respiratory tract infection (big snotty nose!) and some of the penecillin types with infected wounds and high temperature/depressed horse.

Presumably his throat will be pretty sore by now, so maybe the infection is going but he still feels the soreness?

I'd expect some change ideally by now...did you mean 40mls? or 40mgs? things can take a while to change - I think I remember your original thread...I had some issues there I think...:rolleyes:

Thanks Imogen, yes 40mls, he is still breathing very noisily when I'm bringing him in from the field. I'm getting really worried now to be honest. My vet says its nothing to worry about, but i'm not so sure. Don't want to keep pestering the vet as he his on them for ten days and its only 4 days in.

Noisy how....on inspiration or expiration? Is he on ventipulmin and sputolosin as well or not as the most recent thoughts were about this URT lump thingy as I recall. Was there anything else one the scope - like the trach wash results? Is he on antiinflammtories (i.e. steroids in the case)?
 
It's both really, like a roaring sounds like he has laryngitis and a sore throat. He is fine in himself not distressed by it. He was on Metacam but the vet said to stop when he started the Baytril. He is on ventipulmin. He is going to be scoped again and we will see if the lump is still there.
