Seriously, how long can a mare stay in season for? All over a Dartmoor gelding!!

For the past 3 weeks or so the YO's Dartmoor gelding has been escaping into the mares field, causing all of them to come into season, that's fine, to be expected with this time of year so I'm not that fussed. But now it is getting excessive where she will shout constantly for him when away from him. Trying to lunge her is now a nightmare as she does not listen and is just calling and calling (very entertaining when I am trying to back and break her!) and the constant squirting is causing her stable to be a total mess!

I would have thought she would enjoy not being in foal for the first time in 3 years, but no she is tarting it about like a complete slut! Mind you, it is all she's ever known to be in foal, and this is the first year that she isn't since she was 2 poor girl.

So, suggestions on a balancer or calmer that actually works and doesn't break the bank?

My filly was in season for over 3 weeks last month. The was a nightmare to work and so I made sure I got a couple of minutes good work out of her and then have turned her away again. I'll start work with her again when her companion 3 year old gelding leaves to be broken in, and the gelding she's in love with leaves shortly afterwards. There will then only be her and another mare here for a few weeks so hopefully I will get her broken in during that time.

Too long!
My mare doesn't show obvious signs of being in season, but becomes soo full of beans I can't tire her out! She also gets very bolshy. She flirts with the geldings in next field but just becomes obsessed with my old gelding (with whom she shares a field), and gets distressed if he's out of sight, even for a second.
She was in season for the whole of February...absolute nightmare to deal with.
However seems to have settled down and seasons since have been less dramatic.
Can't say I've ever found a supplement that works, just got to be sympathetic and work with her when she's in the right frame of mind.
The joys of spring!

If it goes on for more than three to four weeks and is very noticeably enticing the geldings the whole time it might be worth checking for ovarian cysts. Otherwise try chasteberry which moderates hormonal behaviour.

My slut mare went over two weeks last year with a stallion. At home with a gelding she was just the normal few days lol

To be fair to her this is the first season of the year and first proper one since her foal last year. It is really disgusting, every time she sees the Dartmoor she is squirting all over him every 5 minutes! Urrrgh, mares!
