Hiya, my horse is currently on one danilon a day atm and doing really well, I'm going to try her without starting from tomorrow but I suspect she will become too uncomfortable, so may end up putting her back on one a day.
Does anyone else have a horse one one a day or has anyone got any experiences of long term use of Danilon?
Thanks :)

My horse is on half a sachet of bute a day. I spoke to my vets about the long term use of danilon or bute and he said that amount wont really make a lot of difference and she is more likely to go due to her problems long before that would do any serious harm! I would speak to your vet and just see what they say! My mare is on it more for my piece of mind than anything else and she is going great :)

I have 2 horses on long term danilon, both have been on it for years theyre monitored by my vet and have had no ill effects, i think you meed to weigh up the need for ot against the possible negative effects, for me my horse needs it for pain relief due to arthritis, this wont change so they have danilon to maintain their quality of life

My arthritic gelding is on 1 sachet twice a day, our vet said old age would probably get him long before the danilon had a serious negative effect...!

He's only been on it since last week and its made such a difference to him. He actually bucked on the weekend.....!

I have a cob on 1 sachet of Equiplazone a day to keep her hacking sound. My vet said that as she lives out she isn't likely to get ulcers to be irritated by the bute so there is no problem keeping her on it. Rather keep her pain free than miserable and bored. She is only ridden gently around 3 times a week and if I know she isn't being ridden I sometimes miss out a day.
Btw if you get a prescription from your vet Equiplazone is 48p fro animed Direct (98p from vet). My vet charges £5.50 for a prescription.

my 21 yr old is on 1 danilon a day to keep her comfortable while the ground is hard...i drop her down to 1/2 a day if the ground is soft so she is on the least possible dose. why not try yours on 1/2 to start with and if she seems ok maybe 1/2 every other day so shes on a very low dose if you are worried about the long term effect. i would rather mine had a shorter pain free life rather than a longer less comfortable life.....

One of my Shire mares has been on 1 sachet of Danilon twice a day for arthritis in 2 pastern joints since about this time last year. The difference it makes to her quality of life is incalculable. I was quite concerned when the vet suggested this protocol, but he said at her weight (she's worm dosed for one tonne) the amount of drug is quite small. He reassured me that many horses survive very favourably for years on higher doses for their weights.

Thanks guys you've put my mind at rest, she seems so much more comfortable and full of life when shes on it and if its what she needs then so be it, I just didnt want to be shortening her life and knackering her insides.
Thank you guys! :D:D
