so... thinking of taking the plunge and getting another horse.

how long did you look for before you found your current horse? Did you call up about/try loads or were you quite selective when viewing ads?

A girl at my yard said she was looking for a year!! This concerns me!

I too searched for a year!! I only viewed horses that matched my criteria until the one I finally bought....he was 4 years old - I didnt want a youngster......grey - I didnt really like greys.....below my minimum height range - Iwas looking at 15hh+ and he was 14.3hh!!!
I think it took me so long because my criteria was so strict!!
If you're anywhere near South Leicester I know a couple of horses for sale.
Good luck :)

6 months, then he only went and died.

When I ride a horse I either click instantly or don't. I clicked with quite a few but none where what I was looking for until I tried K who I just clicked with instantly and had a good connection with him.

Andy just came to me by chance, and tbh I think they always end up the best horses. Have you been skimming the adds?

No time at all. I was just browsing the ads, wasn't even looking to buy, and found one that seemed to be what I would need if I were looking to buy. Decided going to look at her can't hurt. Turned out she wasn't right but then they showed me another horse they had and a week later he was mine :)

I wasn't searching! Had an awful time with previous horse, rehomed him...was distraught and not looking, friend offered me her horse who was out of work after a tendon injury 4 yrs ago, had a couple babies whilst she evented other horses, I wasn't sure if I was ready, rode her down the lane, clicked instantly, she is my horse of a lifetime and we are perfectly suited. I am the luckiest person in the world, 1 year on we are having such a good time!

I was looking for what everyone wants

15.3 -17h sane sound all-rounder (or potential all-rounder) aged 4 to 10years for under £3k

Took me about 4 months and over 1500 miles!! After seeing lots I decided even though the market was slow I was not going to see anything that had been up for sale more than a week or two. I bought the first one I saw then!! I would not mind but each time I had had lengthy conversations with vendor explaining exactly what I needed

This was the second time exact same thing has happened. previous time I had been looking 2/3 months and seen 15 + horses. said horse was advertised at 7am I phoned at 8 and travelled 200 miles same morning and bought him

I honestly believe if you are looking for the same/similar and they are for sale any longer then potential purchasers disagree with what it says in the advert. So much so that in future I would NEVER travel more than 20/30 miles to see anything advertised any longer

I was lucky, not looking for a horse for a few months but thought i would have a look at what the prices were. I saw a horse for sale, local (10 minutes away), less than £1200 thought i might have a look.

I found a lovely mare, fab breeding, had issues napping, we seem to have got through that (only had her 3 months, so fingers crossed ;) )

But I think myself lucky that i just wanted to have a look at what prices horses were going for, otherwise i might never had found my beautiful mare, you never know what's round the corner :)

My first gelding, 2 weeks. My current mare ... hmmmm i dont know!! I had seen her advertised on the internet in about Sept as unbroken and i still had my gelding and couldt afford another, so i was just having a nosey really! But then my gelding had to be pts at the end of Sept. I looked back on the website to see if the mare was still for sale and she was, and even better she had been broken. So we rang about her at the end of Dec, viewed a week later, vetted and had her home the day after we viewed her :D

Over a year!

And when we found her she was too young too small and too lightweight and a "boring bay".

She's amazing though, couldn't have asked for more, and for a third the price of the other horses we were looking at we feel like we got a bargain!

such a sad story about Koko :(

yes, I've been skimming the adds and have seen one or two I would consider calling about in the month or so I've been looking, but I'm not really in the position just yet to buy - i'm waiting for my October payrise!

I suppose I ask because if it's such a minefield, maybe I need to start looking properly now!

thanks :)

Properly looking for about a year went and viewed a handful, tried some out, all the good one's go quick I learnt.

So I gave up til my sister in law called me to say there was a horse where she was that is just what I was looking for.... he arrived yest... I never went to see him as he was in Ireland BUT only because my sister in law knows me very well and what I want how I work with them and so far so good he is a real poppet ;) It was a gamle mind you.

Best of luck with the search.. and yes I would perhaps start looking now... can't hurt
