Til it stops being sore and the swelling goes. (I work in orthopaedics)
Lots of ice and elevation to speed up healing, Keep gently moving it in circles one way and then the other 2/3 times an hour or more if you can manage. Take Ibuprofen for swelling and pain.

Is it left or right ankle?

Absolutely ditto with the ICE and elevation and take ARNICA you get it from boots you can also buy Arnica cream and apply to bruising it speeds up recovery, riding before it feels better will slow down. When you do ride strap it up and go without stirrups.
That was why i asked what ankle it was, if it is the right you could mount up and go without stirrups, but be careful getting off and not something I would recommend with my NHS hat on, think of insurance cover too.
I slipped on someones doorstop it was well embarrasing i heard it pop have snapped the ligaments! Im walking on it better and the swelling has gone down a bit but its going a bit purple so bruising is coming. It is my left so wouldnt be able to mount unless i did it from the wrong side! Its horrid im off work tho so thats one good thing! Thanks guys i guess ill have to wait for a bit then. Forgot to0 ask doc at A&E thats why i ask!
