Before you ride ? And how long after you ride do u feed ? I've always gave it about 1 hr 30 mins roughly maybe more usually each way but someone said to me it should be no less than 2hr 30 mins and it has put doubt in my head if I'm doing it wrong .. X

I was always told to wait 1 hour from the horse finishing its feed before riding or travelling. Never heard of 2.5hours! Re after exercise, as long as the horse isnt hot or puffying, then I just feed when I am ready - could be 1/2hour could be 2 hours!

My horse is just on fibre feed, so have no worries with riding almost straight after eating, same with travelling. Some eventers/endurance horses get fed inbetween phases, so it really isn't going to cause a problem!

I tend to feed at 6 a.m and ride at 7.15. Horse is only having half a scoop of nuts and double handful of chaff at the moment anyway. If I feed when I get back then I untack, rug up and turn him out with his breakfast. He seems more than happy like that.

Echo this, if you feed just fibre feeds, you can pretty much feed/travel when you like, it's one of the many benefits! If you are feeding cereals/sugars it's best to leave for an hour i'd say.

I THINK that I read somewhere (in a magazine) a while ago, that it isn't necessary to leave time after feed before exercise....! I personally leave 1/2 hr as mine is on lightish feed.

When I used to feed concentrates I'd wait an hour before riding, but now he's on a high fibre diet I dont worry about the time. As for afterwards, again I've only ever waited till he's stopped blowing/sweating. 2.5 hours?? Jeez I wouldn't have time for that I'd be there all day!!!

I ride straight after feeding because I only feed fibre. If I was feeding cereal I'd leave it for an hour but anything longer seems excessive to me.
