How long do you lunge for?

30-40 minutes, 5-10 minute warm up with nothing on then I generally use the Pessoa with a 5 minute break in between then a cool off 5-10. However I have a stupidly long lunge line that is about 120ft so I have him out on massive circles to take as much strain off his legs as possible during the warm up and cool down and bring him back in to work properly on a normal sized circle. Having the size line I do and the space to do it in, makes it better as he can have a decent canter to loose himself off before being brought back onto a tighter circle.
I also use straight lines, different sized circles and as much of the field as possible.
At the moment he isn't lunged as the fields are too wet but he was lunged 2 x week when he was in ridden work and then 4 x week when he wasn't ridden (no saddle).

120ft!!!!

Once a week in the summer, have no school so can't lunge in the winter as field is a tad mushy

No more than 30 mins - ranging from 10-25 generally. not always with gadgets but depends on horses mood and mine! generally he likes to start off with a buck and run around which is fine, but sometimes he won't do anything else but!! On occasion I will then put a chambon on to gain some attention back or alternatively just finish. The fitter he is, the longer he'll hooley round for

Circle sizes? Field on a slope and depends on which line horse takes - sometimes he finds he can get better bucks if he cuts of one side and goes in a straight line. But I'll generally start them big - walking in a circle myself to make them bigger and do parts in walk and trot on smaller circles

If your lunging as part of a training routine the circle size should vary, smaller to larger, larger to smaller, transitions up and down from one gait to another with change of tempo and length of strides within the gaits. A good workout correctly working all gaits including walk warm up and cool down maximum 30 minutes.

Once to twice a week religiously at the moment. I lunge for no more than about 20mins, start off on a HUGE circle to stretch and warm up, then bring the circle in to about 12/15m to engage and work, and then back out again with no gadgets on to cool off.
