How long does it take you to 'click' with a new horse and how do you know when have?

I have owned my mare for about 4 weeks and rode her for about 4 weeks before that. Don't get me wrong I have liked her from the off, but over the last couple of days she has finally felt like she was mine, and that I finally 'got her'. I think I am now starting to understand how her mind works and how to get the best from her.

'Clicking' was a really clear moment for me out hacking, when suddenly everything just seemed to fall into place, I felt completely relaxed on her, she felt really happy and content as we were just trotting down a track, enjoying ourselves.

It's a lovely moment when you first really feel at one with them isn't it! :D

The best horses (for me) I clicked with the first time I got in the saddle. Just felt at home.
Had one lovely mare for 3 years, loved her to bits but never felt right when riding her. Finally sold her and had lots of interest, but the rider I chose to sell her to, was a 13 year old girl. She wasn't as technically clever as others who tried her, but as soon as she started riding I could see she was smitten. She couldn't stop smiling, my mare seemed to love her too. After watching the two of them together, I knew they were a partnership. Three years on, they are achieving more together than I ever could have.

Nice post

It took me several months to bond with Micah. I think a lot of that was the fact I had had my previous horse such a long time.

However Micah is much more suitable and so much easier for me, such a sweet lad

i think about 18 months with mine.... he was nice from the outset, but it took that long to really 'get' each other.
