As per the title really, some people seem suprised as I live a bit further away from most meets (have to go down one junction of motorway) but in fact it only took me 30 minutes the other day door to door and the max is just under an hour. I have the hounds for a different hunt almost on my doorstep and it would take me 20 - 30 mins I suspect on average to reach their meets but choose to support one slightly further away.

I think the reality is that in some parts of the country up to an hour is probably the norm !

Just curious to see what journey everyone else does !

10 minutes to an hour depending on which part of the hunt country they are at and how many horse boxes I get stuck behind! I have the dubious pleasure of being stuck in the fen side of our country - great for Autumn hunting but a pain in the ass when they are on t'other side of the territory. I tend to use and abuse my parents' spare room to make life easier as by accident and long before I got into hunting they bought a house near the kennels!

thanks guys, makes me feel a bit better ! although hacking to meets is obviously more cost effective ! although not sure how you do it for autumn trailing - a tad dark if you have 1.5 hour hack and need to be there for 7am !

That depends on how heavy your horse is on shoes :p I only get one days hunting from a set if I have a long hack! I wouldn't hack that far for cubbing ;)

To hunt with my own hunt max journey is 1 hour 15 mins. Setting the alarm at 4 o/c not a lot of fun for the earlies but we do it. Am now at the age where we both go to bed for a kip in the afternoon when we get up that early. Old age catching up on us!!

I only go autumn hunting now as I can't afford proper hunting & as I haven't got any transport I have to hack there, which means sometimes setting off in the dark.

I wear an orange, hi viz, tabard over my jacket (with reflective stips) & reflective bands, designed for joggers, which have red LED lights, on both arms & legs.

I have a bum bag strapped to the breast plate which I use to put the lights & tabard in.

I hack home with just the tabard on.

I also attached a tag for a dog's collar on to the horses bridle with emergency contact details for me in case I have an accident.
