My horse has went in for a knee operation today (9am to be precise). The vets have not rand to let me know whats happening. The receptionist told me at 1pm he was fine and not to worry as they would let me know as soon as they could.

4pm and still nothing!!

Im sitting at work and very stressed.... never had one of mine have an operation so i havent a clue how long these take!!??

They're either madly busy with in patients etc or he isn't properly round yet. We wouldn't ring an owner until the animal was completely round from G/A sedation etc.

Try not to worry to much about no phone call - its def better this way, means nothing really to report yet.

Sure they'll phone you soon x

I would phone up. My horse had tendon surgery last year and I didnt get a phone call straight away as there was another case straight after, but it wasnt as long as you have waited. It is possible that there was an emergency in.

I hope you have good news and all is well.

I know how you are feeling, sitting at work thinking of nothing else but your horse and feeling helpless.

Vet just rang 5 mins ago!

Hes ok, still in the recovery box, but standing!!

Im so pleased as i was told that G.A. can be quite risky - the vet had tried to do it with sedation and nerve blocks yesterday but he was in so much pain that he wouldnt let them put the nerve blocks in. Turns out that GA was best method anyway as they had to do some extensive work.

Think ill have a glass of wine to chill out tonight after ive been to see him!

Thanks people! x

Great news - glad he's on the mend
