Asking for a friend. Her boy had the injection on Tuesday, it's now Sunday and he is still stamping his back feet.

Thanks in advance.

My old mare had it in november. Gave her her first one and id say i seen a difference after 10 days she was stamping a lot less then after 14 days she had her second injection and within days her mites were cleared completely. She never had them back up until she passed away in july.

Oh right. Thanks. I think she thought he would stop stamping the next day. I presume she has booked another jab in two weeks. He horse is stabled next to mine. It's so sad to see him stamping so much.

As he has the mite she will need to do more than just wait for the injection to work, if feathered then cut feathers then wash with a medicated shampoo with diluted iodine, helps heal the scabs and remove the mites, and stop the itching. Wash right up to the inside of the hindleg the mites travel. Remember whilst the dectomax might kill the living mites the eggs laid will still hatch and carry on the cycle until they die, important to give the legs a really good wash. Then towel dry and put some frontline on the legs for double measure.

I found it fairly swift though mine was not heavily feathered, just medium feathers and I think I got the little ******* before they got too entrenched. What I had though a week or two after each of the jabs was all the hair/skin sloughing off where they had fed and damaged just under the surface of the skin where they burrow and where he'd rubbed his back legs against each other. All grew back though but did look a bit sore initially.

Shy started stamping his feet and scratching his mane and tail REALLY badly, the day after we went round stubble fields a few days ago. I slathered on the pig oil and sulphur that night, and voila ! All sorted. Do patch test first though. :D
