Oh poor him
My friends colt did her the diservice of dislocating her shoulder.
Think it took a good 4 weeks of minimal movement. Even when she felt better she wasnt allowed to move it much incase it popped back out!

i fell into a water jump when i was 15 and broke my collar bone and hurt my shoulder im now 27 and still have major problems with it.

Shoulders are really tricky to fix im afraid

They cant strap them thats problem .My horse ran into back of me and I have lump but couldnt remember how long it took to heal.Broken collar bone healed well but that was years ago

Ive seen one of the top shoulder Consultant specialist in the country, the head shoulder specialist physio in the country and Occupational Therapists and no one can fix mine.

I cant put mascara on or dry my hair or lift my shoulder far - some mornings it sticks out at a funny angle however when i ride its fine!!!

I dislocated mine a few years ago on 5th November, I didn't get on until just before Christmas. It was really painfull for quite a while and although I found the sling a total pain in the butt it really helped as my shoulder ached very quickly. I couln't drive for about 3/4 weeks and hubby mucked out for a month for me.

Make sure you rest it, I am the worlds worst for not doing as I'm told and now I have a really clicky shoulder and it does ache occasionally.

Hope it feels better soon

can recommend accupunture etc through a physio once healing under way - shoulders are hard to fix and ache off an on for years but i found acu very helpful and quick.
6 weeks ago i was being bronco'd by my horse and was looking down for where was best to throw myself as he wasn't for stopping, i intentionally threw myself so i wouldnt land on old shoulder injury and now i'm laying here with broken pelvis and sacroiliac/sacrum!!! how stupid am i??? i wish i'd opted for the shoulder now but it had been niggling me that week so thought best avoid :-(

I might try accupuncture. i have chilli pepper cream at the moment which i understand de senstises the nerves - god knows what the long term effects are. Ive been told so many different stories of whats wrong with it!

If you ride well your shoulders should be still and at the moment im lucky enough to ride a horse that moves well so i dont have to do alot of work!

Dislocations can take around 6-8 weeks to heal and unfortunately, you can then be prone to further dislocataion, so he needs to keep his arm in the sling and go back to fracture clinic for advice......
