Finally managed to get hands on muzzle for the big fat boy, put it on in stable to fit it and poked in a few pony nuts and handful of grass so he got the idea.
He's now been out in the field in it for a couple of hours and is calmly grazing with the odd scrape of it on his leg and pacing (when he spots me watching)

I wasn't expecting him to adapt to it so quickly so I was going to take it off now - but as he's chilled is it daft to leave it on til much later?

He grazed in it straight away - am suspicious he's worn one before but certainly not in the last 4 years.

I haven't seen him drink - but then they aren't drinking much at the moment as there's so much in the grass.

you're just feeling sorry for ;-) give yourself a kick to avoid taking it off lol! wouldnt want to him to get laminitus!

Well that decides it - just went out to take it off and he'd jumped out (AGAIN!) into the hay field - most of the reason we need the muzzle in the first place is his knowledge that the grass certainly is greener.

So he can now have it on all evening (he was happily grazing in the hay field!)

Well, I see you've already made your decision, but I would have said leave it on too. My girl wears one 24/7 (unless I'm doing something with her) & she wasn't very happy when I first put it on her, she was devastated but eventually she worked out how to graze through it & it's a godsend! She's such a greedy swine! Now she eats at a normal rate instead of pigging out all the time :)
