So horse has been kicked on the knee. Treated by vets etc so have taken professional advice and meds etc. Wound is clean and he's in but it's on the bony part of knee with very little muscle to help healing. I was just wondering how long your horses knee injury have taken to heel, well at least enough for them to be turned out again?

How deep is it?

I had a mare who cut her knee in a water jump at a competition. She made a "smile" in her knee - completely across the joint. It was stapled and she was cross tied with a Robert Jones bandage to stop her bending it. She was tied for 6 weeks, until the tissue had completely healed. There was no scar to see afterwards. It was a pretty deep cut though, and if she had been getting up and down, or pawing for her tea, it would never have healed.

I had one of mine cut open her knee, near enough from one side to another but it was like a pocket the vet could fit a finger down inside. She was on box rest for 4 weeks, we used laser treatment and Manuka honey to treat.

Mine was on box rest for 3 months with a knee injury in 2004. She spent 4 weeks of that at Leahurst with a cast on her knee (made from a piece of old drain pipe!). Hers was really bad though and we had a lot of trouble with proud flesh as it was healing.
