So up to now I’ve been working really hard in conjunction with my horses physio, to build him up and get him fit. He came with a lot of weakness, and pain. It’s taken me 4 months to get him to the point of being ridden, comfortable, able to canter. We had even started a tiny bit of jumping last week. I’ve been SO happy with his progress.
But I got some bad news two days ago that I have to self isolate for 14 days. GAH! Horse has been on a consistent plan of being ridden 5/6 times per week, hacking 2 /3 days, for up to 2 hours some trot and canter. Then 2 days of pole work for 40 mins mostly trot. And another day of either lunging or maybe a flat work exercise or some interval training in the hayfield
He’s certainly not in hard work, but he had gained a reasonable level of fitness.
Question is how easy will I have to take it on my return? Is 14 days enough to loose significant fitness and muscle?
Luckily they’re still able to live out and my lovely yard friends are checking on him for me. But I’m still concerned I may have to take a big step back - we did a lot of lunge poles and hacking for a good few weeks to try and build up his lumbar area, and clearly it’s worked and I’d be devastated to have to take such a big step back.
